Meghan Markle leaves Duchess Sophie ‘fuming’ over race row claims
Meghan and Sophie Wessex seem frosty at commonwealth service
Duchess Sophie is reportedly fuming after being dragged into the royal race row which resurfaced after Omid Scobie released his book, Endgame, which alleged she did little to support Meghan Markle when she was struggling to adjust to her new royal life.
Scobie accused the Duchess of Edinburgh of being “casually bigoted” but that she once ignored the Duchess of Sussex as she was leaving a church service in Windsor.
However, friends of the royal have hit back at the “blatantly untrue” claims and add that Sophie went out of her way to befriend Prince Harry’s wife in the early days of their marriage. According to them, Sophie even invited Meghan to her Surrey home, Bagshot Park.
A royal source told the Sun: “It was just the two of them and they talked for hours. Meghan had so many questions and Sophie, who knows what it’s like navigating your way through the early days of transition from a commoner to a royal, gave freely of her advice.

“Sophie found Meghan likeable and engaging and told her that she could call her any time when she needed advice about dealing with some of the trickier royals.
“She was quite surprised when that was the last she heard from Meghan. As she noted, it would’ve been nice to receive a return invitation to Frogmore Cottage (where Meghan was then living with Harry and is less than half an hour from Bagshot).”
Meanwhile, Scobie wrote in Endgame about an interview of the Duchess of Edinburgh to the Telegraph, in which she was asked about her reaction to Harry and Meghan’s appearance in 2021 with Oprah Winfrey.
According to Scobie, Sophie replied: “You know, if you’re not into chat shows, there’s no reason why you should know who she (Oprah) is. Certainly not in this country, anyway.”

During the Oprah Winfrey interview, it was the first time that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed there was one royal who expressed their concern over their son Prince Archie’s skin colour. They refused to mention any names.
Last month when Endgame was released, the Dutch version of the book had to be taken off the shelves as it contained the names of not one but two senior royals who allegedly expressed such concerns.
The Daily Express has chosen not to name the two individuals.
