Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting the birth of their first born child towards the end of this month. But, a royal author has claimed the decisions of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over their baby has “upset people a lot”. Both Meghan and Prince Harry said they had made the “personal decision” earlier this month not to share details about the tot until they have had time to “celebrate privately”.

Royal author, Tina Brown, claimed Princess Diana was also subject to “animosity” like Meghan, for doing what “she wants to do”.

Ms Brown told CBS: “I think it is totally entitled, but I think it has been the reason for quite a lot of animosity.

“She wanted a woman to deliver her child, which I think is great.

“Diana got all the same flak when Diana decided that her child was going to go to this little school, instead of being homeschooled and all the rest.

“She did what she wanted to do, she was the first royal to take a baby on a royal tour.

“Everybody then did the same thing to her, so it is just moving the needle.”

The royal author also claimed that the decision by Meghan not to follow the tradition of Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Princess Diana, to have a photograph on the steps outside a hospital after the birth of her child had “really angered the press”.

She said: “I am not so sure that was the greatest of moves in terms of the whole perception and popularity.

“But, on the other hand, this is a very private event, she is allowed to do what she wants after having a baby.

“I think she could have given them their two minutes and got into a car.

“The fact they have decided not to is obviously a defiant gesture, saying ‘this is our private act’. That has definitely upset people a lot.”

Last month, Meghan and Prince Harry’s household said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby.

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private.

“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

It follows growing speculation that Meghan could opt for a home birth at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, where the Countess of Wessex gave birth to her children, has also been suggested as it is close to Meghan and Harry’s new house.

According to Harper’s Bazaar magazine, Prince Harry’s mother-in-law, Dora Ragland, is staying with the couple at their Frogmore House residence in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
