Meghan Markle hits ‘watershed moment’ after surprise admission, royal expert claims
Meghan Markle surprisingly opened up about the pressure she has been facing to adapt to her new role within the Royal Family. In an unprecedented documentary filmed during her stay in South Africa last month, the Duchess of Sussex admitted to finding royal life “hard” to settle into as a new bride and mother. Daily Mirror’s Royal Editor Russel Myers suggested Meghan’s candid interview could mark a “watershed moment” in her relationship with the public.
Speaking to Today, Mr Myers said: “I think it’s complete candour from Meghan. We haven’t really seen her speak so publicly like this.
“Harry has been very, very open in the past talking about his mental health struggles.
“He says they are ongoing but for Meghan to bare herself like this is, potentially, a watershed moment in terms of what the relationship with the public is.”
The royal expert continued: “She definitely says she has tried to maintain the British stiff upper lip but it doesn’t work.

“She also said nobody really asked how she’d been doing with the pressure of being in the Royal Family, the pressure she has felt being in the public eye.”
The Duchess claimed very few people have asked her about her emotional state amid increasing scrutiny on her conduct both in her royal and private role.
Meghan and Harry came under fire during the Summer for openly voicing their concerns on climate change during their collaboration with fashion magazine Vogue – a move members of the public interpreted delving into the political scene.
The Duke and Duchess later faced further criticism after they were found to have used private jets to go on holiday with their young son Archie Harrison to Spain and later to France.

International superstar Sir Elton John, a close friend to the prince through his mother Diana, defended the couple as he explained he had lent them his private jet and had contributed to a charity organisation to offset their carbon footprint.
In the ITV documentary ‘Harry and Meghan: An African Journey,’ the Duchess conceded to being naive about the amount of public attention she would face as a member of the Royal Family.
Prince Harry also appeared to struggle with the pressure as he admitted he is concerned about the impact the scrutiny could have on Meghan after due to the tragic experience of his mother, Princess Diana.
Speaking on the programme, Meghan told journalist and friend Tom Bradby: “It’s hard. I don’t think anybody could understand that.”

“In all fairness, I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand and hear,”
“But when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy but my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’”
“And I very naively – I’m American. We don’t have that there – I said, ‘What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in any tabloids. I didn’t get it. So it’s been, yeah, it’s been complicated.”
The Duke said he wished to protect his wife from the same tragic fate his mother Diana, who was killed in a car crash in Paris after being chased by paparazzi in 1997, faced.
Prince Harry said: “My mum clearly taught me a certain set of values of which I will always try and uphold despite the role and the job that sometimes that entails, if you know what I mean.
“But I think, I will always protect my family and now I have a family to protect.”
