Meghan Markle heartbreak: Meghan and Harry to reveal ‘world of pain behind brave faces’

Meghan and Prince Harry will lay bare their struggles and frustrations in director Tom Bradby’s ‘Harry & Meghan: An African Journey’ on ITV. The show, which will air on Sunday night, focuses on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ recent tour to Africa. It will cast a new light on recent events involving the Sussexes, including Prince Harry’s statement against the British tabloid press and his heartwarming speech at yesterday’s WellChild Awards.

In the trailer for the programme, Mr Bradby said: “The story of their time in Africa was of passion for their work, private happiness, but a world of pressure and pain behind the brave faces.”

This comes after Mr Bradby announced this project on Twitter, the day after the end of Meghan and Harry’s tour to Africa.

The broadcaster wrote: “Just finished filming a documentary on Harry and Meghan in Africa.

“I think it will explain a lot when it airs.”

According to an ITV spokesman, the documentary will heavily focus on Meghan and Harry’s work but also on their “struggles” as a family seeking privacy under the public spotlight.

He said: “[It will give] exclusive access to the world’s most talked-about couple, exploring their compassion and work, alongside the challenges and pressure they face living as a young family on the global stage trying to balance their public duties and private life under media scrutiny.”

Just two days before the broadcaster’s tweet, Prince Harry had launched an attack on the British tabloid press.

In his statement, Harry announced a legal case against the Mail On Sunday for publishing extracts of a private letter written by Meghan to her father Thomas Markle Snr in August 2018.

But he also spoke of “relentless propaganda” and “bullyism” against Meghan.

He wrote: “Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son.

“There is a human cost to this relentless propaganda, specifically when it is knowingly false and malicious, and though we have continued to put on a brave face – as so many of you can relate to – I cannot begin to describe how painful it has been.”

Prince Harry appeared emotional yesterday when he attended the WellChild Awards with Meghan.

The Duke of Sussex broke down in tears while delivering a speech to families at the awards dedicated to inspiring children.

He said: “Last year when my wife and I attended [these awards] we knew we were expecting our first child – no one else did at the time, but we did – and I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tight during the awards.

“Both of us thinking what it would be like to be parents one day and more so, what it would be like to do everything we could to protect and help our child should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time.

“And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you pulls at my heart strings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own.”

Harry, overcome by the emotions, stopped briefly amid thunderous applause, before adding: “It has been over a decade since I first came to these Awards and every year they never fail to surprise and inspire me.

“Yet this year, it resonates in a different way, because now I’m a father.”
