Meghan Markle heartbreak: Duchess told ‘complaining is useless’ by Denmark princess
Princess Marie, the second wife of Prince Joachim of Denmark, seemingly hit out at Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, during an interview with French magazine Paris Match. The Danish princess, born in France as Marie Agathe Odile Cavallier, was asked how she finds living under the constant scrutiny of the press as a member of the Danish Royal Family.
And she was offered Meghan’s case as an example of a royal “complaining” about the unwanted attention from the media and the public.
But, despite finding herself in a very similar situation with Meghan, Princess Marie didn’t side with the Duchess of Sussex.
Asked whether she finds “painful to live” under the microscope of the press, just like “Meghan Markle has complained about it”, Princess Marie said: “I make sure to expose myself only when necessary.
“Complaining is useless.”
The princess, who had a career of her own and was working as executive secretary in ING Numismatic Group SA before marrying Prince Joachim in 2008, added she hasn’t changed since becoming a member of the Royal Family, but has been careful about what she put out for the public to see.
The princess explained how she prefers to conceal some of her personality traits when the situation calls for it.
Asked whether she think a public figure should hide her characteristic traits as a private individual, the princess said: “I think I’m still the same.
“I simply decline certain aspects of my personality depending on the situation.”
Prince Joachim is the younger son of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik.
As sixth in the line of succession to the Danish throne, he is unlikely to ever be crowned King of Denmark.
Meghan unveiled her struggles to adjust to the media attention as a mother and wife in a heartfelt interview to ITV’s broadcaster Tom Bradby during the Harry & Meghan: An African Journey documentary.
Asked how she was adjusting to the scrutiny that comes with being a member of the Royal Family in the UK, the Duchess of Sussex candidly spoke about her feelings.
She said: “Look, any woman especially when they are pregnant you’re really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a new born – you know…
“And especially as a woman, it’s a lot.
“So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed it’s, well…
“And, also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m OK.
“But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”
Prompted to confirmed whether it was fair to say it had been a struggle for her to cope with the media attention, Meghan simply replied: “Yes.”
In the interview, which aired on ITV in October, just a few days after the end of the successful tour to Africa by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan also took a swipe at the “stiff upper lip”.
She said: “I’ve said for a long time to H – that’s what I call him – it is not enough to just survive something, right?
“That’s not the point of life. You’ve got to thrive.
“You’ve got to feel happy and I think I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip. I tried, I really tried.”
