Meghan Markle claimed to have had little knowledge of the Royal Family before she began a relationship with Prince Harry. Royal biographer Andrew Morton claimed the Duke of Sussex’s already “jaded” view of the institution could have played a role in the Duchess’ ability to become accustomed to the needs and requirements of royal life. Speaking to This Morning, Mr Morton said: “As she said herself, she didn’t read the tabloids, she didn’t watch TMZ.”

“She learnt what she learnt about the Royal Family from Harry.”

“Harry himself was quite jaded with the Royal Family even before this, so she’s had a very rambunctious education into the royal world.”

“She has had members of the household give her advice, and she’s a quick study, but even so.”

“I think it takes many years for someone to accommodate themself into the Royal Family, and these two didn’t give it very long at all.”

Just a few months after the pair started dating, Prince Harry’s communication secretary released an official statement.

It read: “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.

“It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm.”

Meghan and Harry stepped down as working members of the Royal Family in January 2020, after less than two years of marriage.

Appearing in a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey in March this year, the couple made shocking claims about their time in the family.

One of the most startling accusations in the interview was when Meghan said that while she was pregnant, someone in the family had a conversation with Prince Harry about how dark the child’s skin would be.

She added that there were concerns that Archie would be “too brown.”

When asked who the person was, the couple refused to name them as it would be “damaging.”

The Palace responded to the claims after a day of silence, claiming they were “saddened” and would address the issues privately as a family.

They also added that “some recollections may vary.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have set up their new family home in Montecito, California, after relocating to the United States at the beginning of the pandemic.

Prince Harry has briefly returned to the UK twice this year to attend his grandfather’s funeral in April and the unveiling of a statue commemorating Princess Diana in July.

The Duchess of Sussex has not travelled to England since 2020, as on both occasions her husband came back she remained in California with their children.
