Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal exit is still making headlines as a new epilogue of the unauthorised biography “Finding Freedom” makes more shocking claims about the row. Author Omid Scobie says the Sussexes’ exit from the Royal Family was “harder than they would ever have imagined” after “trying to find a compromise” The couple had Megxit “mapped out in their heads” but hoped to find a “half in, half out way” before stepping down as senior royals, he added.
Meghan felt isolated within The Firm from very early on, and it was reported that the Camilla Parker Bowles tried to offer some advice to the Duchess of Sussex.
In November 2019, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry joined Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall for their first official engagement as a trio.
At the time, Vanity Fair reported that Camilla was also showing support to the couple behind the scenes.
A source said: “She doesn’t want to see anyone struggling, and she is fond of Meghan.”
The Mail on Sunday reported last August that Camilla had long supported Meghan.
A friend of the Duchess of Sussex told the newspaper that Camilla had private lunches with her new daughter-in-law and offered advice on how to deal with the pressure.
They said: “Much like Meghan, Camilla had experienced a lot of negative press and hostility from courtiers due to her relationship with Charles when he was still married to Diana.
“She was very sensitive to Meghan and provided her with support, advising her to ride out the storm and that it would all pass—but ultimately Meghan didn’t listen.”
The Mail added that Prince Charles also advised Harry to ignore the bad press.
Camilla faced a long and arduous wait to gain acceptance from the public after her relationship with Charles became an issue in his divorce from Princess Diana.
By the time she and Charles were married in 2005, 13 years after his divorce and eight years after Diana’s death, Camilla was embraced by the British public, the press, and palace courtiers.
She has become one of the more senior royals, and has a close relationship with the media. During the UK lockdown, she continued to carry out her work through social media.
Reports in the Telegraph today claim Camilla has been Charles’ “rock” during the Sussexes recent tension with the Royal Family.
The source told the newspaper: “It is not an exaggeration to say she has been his rock throughout this crisis.
“She has been the one who has kept him on track.
