Meghan Markle, 39, wore the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara amid reports that the Queen refused the jewellery that the Duchess of Sussex wanted. The new unofficial biography of Meghan and Harry titled Finding Freedom has shed light on the tension and revealed that it was actually the Queen’s dresser, Angela Kelly. Royal commentators Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito reflected on extracts from the book to find that Ms Kelly had been “dragging her heels” on the issue which upset Prince Harry.

Speaking on the Royally Obsessed podcast, Ms Fiorito said: “Remember when there was all that wedding gossip that Harry was ****** that Meghan chose a tiara and the Queen was making it difficult and refusing to let her wear the one she wanted.

“She ended up wearing the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara. None of that happened.

“It’s crazy because it happened with the Queen’s dresser, Angela Kelly.

“She supposedly dragged her feet about it and that’s what made Harry really upset.

“Eventually they made it happen, they had the tiara and the biggest thing I think is that she was trying to have a hair and makeup trial and she was trying to get the tiara to wear for that but they weren’t going to secure for her.

“She wasn’t able to see all those things. When you’re a bride, you just want to see those things on your trial.”

Ms Bowie added: “The Queen was apparently in full support and both Harry and Meghan were at the fitting when it happened.”

It comes as royal expert Roya Nikkah explained the rift between the Sussexes and the royals is likely to have stemmed from their approach to the monarchy as senior royals wanted to keep things the same.

When Meghan and Harry stepped down from their roles, the Queen said they couldn’t be “half in, half out” from their royal duties.

The acknowledgement of the tension between royals was confirmed in the book, Finding Freedom, by many insiders.

Speaking to True Royalty TV, Ms Nikkah spoke about what has been learnt from the book on Meghan and Harry.

She said: “The overriding headlines seem to be pretty much what we already knew for the likes of royal correspondents that there were frictions inside palace walls and there were frictions between the Sussexes and other members of the Royal Family.

“I think reading those extracts, the feeling was that they wanted to try to do things a different way.

“Perhaps the Royal Family were quite keen for everyone to carry on with the very successful way of doing things.

“Overall, I took from this a great sadness in the rift that royal correspondents have previously reported on appears to be very much evident and still ongoing. It’s sad.”
