Meghan Markle fears grow: How Palace has ‘not done enough’ to protect Meghan
New mum Meghan Markle’s every move has been analysed ever since her relationship with Prince Harry went public. In recent weeks the Duchess of Sussex has been slammed for everything from wanting privacy at Wimbledon to the way she held baby Archie Harrison on their first public outing together. Now a royal commentator has claimed the Palace has not done enough to shelter Meghan from vicious trolls.
Both Prince Harry, 34, and Meghan Markle, 37, have faced a public backlash of late.
Some royal fans turned on the couple after their decision to keep their son’s christening extremely private and to not reveal his godparents followed the revelation that they spent £2.4million public money on revamping their Windsor home.
Former actress Meghan Markle is no stranger to living in the spotlight but a royal expert has claimed the Palace’s tendency to not respond to criticism may take its toll on the Duchess.
As an actress the suits star will have been used to having a PR to fight her corner, but this is not the case now she is a British royal, expert Victoria Arbiter has claimed.
Ms Arbiter fears Buckingham Palace’s failure to protect Meghan more could cause her to reach “breaking point.”
Ms Arbiter told Today: “As far as her American fans go, there has been a sense there’s not been enough done to protect her – at some point, you have to wonder what is going to be the breaking point.”
The royal commentator has suggested Meghan may be finding her royal role “extremely difficult.”
Ms Arbiter continued: “Yes, she keeps on trucking at the moment but it can’t be anything but incredibly difficult.
“We need to let Meghan blossom and let her do the job she’s in the Royal Family to do and perhaps hold back on some of the criticism.”
“It’s very difficult when you come from previously celebrity background where a publicist can stand up for you or come out and say, ‘no, that report is categorically untrue’.”
Meghan seemed to drop a huge hint about how she was dealing with royal pressure when she attended the Lion King movie premiere at the weekend.
American musician Pharrell Williams was one of the many stars to attend the event and shared an intimate exchange with the Duchess.
Mr Williams praised Meghan and Harry’s marriage and said: “So happy for your union.
“Love is amazing. It’s wonderful. Don’t ever take that for granted, but what it means in today’s climate, I just wanted to tell you, it’s so significant for so many of us. Seriously. It’s significant. We cheer you guys on.”
Meghan reportedly responded by saying: “Thank you,” Meghan responded. “They don’t make it easy.”
While “they” could have been a jokey reference to men or husbands, in general, many have interpreted Meghan’s comment as a veiled dig at the British public and press.
Before she married Prince Harry Meghan revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that she avoided reading the press.
She said: “I don’t read any press. I haven’t even read press for Suits.”
“The people who are close to me anchor me in knowing who I am. The rest is noise.”
