Meghan Markle due ‘ANY DAY NOW’ as Duchess settles into multi-million Windsor mansion
Meghan Markle revealed in January she was six months pregnant, suggesting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will welcome their first child in April at the earliest. Camilla Tominey, who has been covering the Royal Family for several years, suggested the former American actress may actually deliver earlier than expected as new aspects of her birthing plan come to light. Speaking to Today, the royal commentator said: “We cannot get near this due date. We don’t know what the gender is, how much will this baby weight, where will this baby be born.
“All of this information is eluding royal correspondents like me because they won’t make an announcement about where she’s having the baby, hence all of these reports speculating as opposed to stating as fact.
“But Meghan herself has said she is due April or May – I don’t think she is due in May. She’s looking pretty pregnant. I’m expecting it to happen any day now.”
The Royal Family has traditionally avoided revealing too much information about expecting mothers.
While little is known about the Royal Baby specifically, it has been suggested the Duchess of Sussex will opt to forego the support of the Queen’s gynaecological team as well as the services of the Lindo Wing staff that helped Kate, Duchess of Cambridge deliver all three of her children.
Ms Tominey continued: “It may be part on track with the fact that she seems to have snubbed the Lindo Wing where Kate had her babies and where Harry and William were both born, at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington – about five miles up the road from Kensington.
“Because she doesn’t want to go to that hospital, she’s also saying she doesn’t want the Royal gynaecological team.
“That’s made up of a team made up of man called Alan Farthing, who helped deliver Prince Louis last year, and equally another specialist in paediatrics and emergency care called Guy Thorpe-Beeston and apparently it’s because Meghan doesn’t want the baby to be delivered by men in grey suits.”
Both Dr Farthing and Dr Thorpe-Beeston are regarded as two of the best gynaecologists in the world but it seems Meghan is content on snubbing the team appointed to look after the Queen.
The two doctors must attend the birth, in line with royal protocol, but will only step in should something go wrong.
A source close to the Duchess told the Daily Mail: “It is slightly surprising. These people are the best of the best and when it comes down to it, their role would actually be very limited in the birth itself, assuming all goes to plan.”
Meghan and Prince Harry are reported to have appointed an “unnamed female doctor” to be in charge of the birth.
The Duchess’ decision is not the only major departure she has made from royal tradition about her impending arrival.
She is believed to be planning her labour at a hospital near to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, where she and Harry moved to last week after a £3-million renovation.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now settled in at the 10-bed property, at Frogmore Cottage, where their wedding reception was held last year.
Renovation works commissioned by the royal pair are believed to be including a room with a “floating” floor, a feature often used at indoor sports venues built to absorb shocks to reduce injuries, which will likely be used as a yoga room.
