Ms McCain joined host Whoopi Goldberg on the popular US chat show The View to discuss Piers Morgan’s exit from Good Morning Britain following a row over Meghan Markle’s recent bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. The Conservative commentator told Ms Goldberg that the fact that Meghan is believed to have issued a formal complaint to ITV over Mr Morgan’s on-air comments about her suggested the Duchess was closely following her own coverage in the press.
Mr Morgan announced he was leaving Good Morning Britain late on Tuesday night, following a backlash against his comments questioning Meghan Markle’s claims she had suffered mental health problems and suicidal thoughts while a working Royal.
Reports have since emerged that the Duchess herself waded into the row, and submitted a formal complaint to ITV about his remarks. ITV refused to deny suggestions the royal submitted a formal complaint.
“She is clearly paying attention to her press and publicity if she is putting in a formal complaint.”

PA media confirmed the reports late on Wednesday morning.
They said the Duchess’s concern was not about the personal attacks on the validity of her racism allegation made against the royal family, or her claims she was not supported by the institution when experiencing suicidal thoughts, but how Mr Morgan’s comments may affect the issue of mental health generally and those attempting to deal with their own problems.
On Monday morning’s show, the journalist said he didn’t “believe a word she says”, prompting a fierce social media backlash and over 41,000 Ofcom complaints.
Mr Morgan went as far as to dismiss Meghan’s claims that she “didn’t want to be alive any more”.

Mental health charity Mind said it was “disappointed” by his comments and Ofcom has launched an investigation into the matter.
ITV bosses are understood to have asked Mr Morgan to apologise to the Duchess on Tuesday morning’s show but he refused.
On Wednesday morning, the former Daily Mirror editor said he stood by the comments he made on Monday’s programme.
He wrote on Twitter: “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK.
