Meghan Markle, 39, gave previously unseen insight into her life as a senior royal and cast a number of damning claims against The Firm during her sensational CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey. The sitdown aired on ITV in the UK on Monday night and in it, the Duchess said her passport, driving licence and keys were taken from her when she became royal.
Speaking to Oprah, Meghan said: “When I joined that family, that was the last time – until we came here – that I saw my passport, my driver’s licence, my keys.
“All that gets turned over. I didn’t see any of that anymore.”
The Duchess described struggling and feeling isolated after joining the institution and claimed she was not given adequate support.
When Winfrey asked her if she had considered checking herself into a hospital or a mental-health service, Markle replied, “No, that’s what I was asking to do.”
She said “you can’t just do that”, adding: “I couldn’t, you know, call an Uber to the palace.”
Meghan claimed the Palace prevented her from going to lunch with friends because of heightened media hype around her.
She told Oprah: “I am everywhere but I am nowhere.”
The Duchess also discussed experiencing suicidal thoughts at her lowest point, saying she reached a point where she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore” when she was five months pregnant with Archie.
She said: “That was a very clear and real and frightening, constant thought.”
Meghan added she went to a senior aide to “get help” after the onslaught of media attacks but was told it would not be a “good look” for the institution.
Buckingham Palace is yet to respond to the sensational allegations detailed by Meghan and Harry in the interview.
Among these were Meghan’s claim conversations about the colour of their unborn child’s skin were had with Prince Harry by a member of the family.

The Duchess said: “There were also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born.”
While Meghan claimed there were “several” conversations with Harry about the potential colour of Archie’s skin, the Duke later referred to just one conversation having taken place.
When Oprah raised the topic with him, Harry was quick to shut it down, responding: “That’s a conversation I am never going to share. I’m not comfortable sharing that.”
However, Oprah spoke out on Monday to claim Harry had told her neither the Queen nor Prince Philip were behind remarks about Archie’s skin colour.
The chat show host told CBS This Morning: “He [Harry] did not share the identity with me but he wanted to make sure I knew, and if I had an opportunity to share it, that it was not his grandmother or grandfather that were part of those conversations.”
Some have compared the Sussexes’ interview to Princess Diana’s iconic sitdown with Panorama in 1995 in which the late Princess of Wales made damaging revelations about the Royal Family.
