Meghan Markle breaks silence on public attention – ‘They don’t make it easy!’
She was overheard making the remark to Pharrell Williams at the European premiere of Disney’s latest hit movie, The Lion King. The hit singer said that he was happy for the couple, adding love is amazing and wonderful. He said: “Don’t ever take that for granted but what it means in today’s climate, I just wanted to tell you it’s so significant for so many of us. Seriously. We cheer you guys on.”
In an apparent reference to the royal family’s public attention, she replied: “Oh thank you. They don’t make it easy.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have fought to protect their privacy in recent weeks.
The christening of new Royal Archie Harrison was made private, with the couple releasing just two images from the day and refusing to reveal details about the youngster’s godparents.
And at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, fans were banned from taking pictures of the former reality TV star.
A source at the tennis club told The Times that Meghan had wanted to watch the sport in privacy.
The couple has also come under fire for using taxpayers money to partly renovate their Frogmore Cottage home.
Some £2.4million worth of improvements to the electric and plumbing systems were funded by the Sovereign Grant, a publicly funded pot of money for official Royal Family use.
But back in June, a royal commentator claimed that Meghan has more control in PR decisions than other members of the Royal family.
Commentator Rob Shuter said that the Duchess has made her staff sign non-disclosure agreements and even decides what images are posted to social media platforms.
Mr Shuter added: “You cannot forget that Meghan is not new to this, she has been working in Hollywood for years and she understands the power of the press and photography particularly.
“While other members of the Royal Family they’re happy to let their PR people make all these decisions, Meghan is not. She’s very involved.”
