Meghan Markle branded ‘no political animal’ in blow to new career ambitions
Meghan Markle will not enter politics as that’s “not one of her interests”, one royal author has claimed.
It comes after California Senator Dianne Feinstein’s death last month sparked fevered speculation that the Duchess of Sussex might replace her.
A major Democratic donor close to California Governor Gavin Newsom – who will choose Feinstein’s replacement – told the Mail on Sunday: “Meghan is definitely a long shot but in the craziness that is US politics these days it’s not an impossibility.”
However, not everyone is convinced. Speaking exclusively to Express US, Clive Irving, author of The Last Queen and royal columnist at The Daily Beast suggested the Duchess would not be the right fit for a career in politics.
“I don’t think she would go off in that direction. She’s not a political animal in that sense.”

Other royal observers are not so quick to rule it out. In a previous interview with this Express US, Tom Bower, author of “Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors”, suggested that Meghan may try to enter the political fold in the next few years.
He said: “She will use her status to promote her ambitions.
“I think it will become clearer in a year or two when the children are a bit older whether she goes into politics.”
Should Meghan choose to run for office, the royal biographer reckons she’ll be eaten alive.
“The trouble is she’s got a thin skin and doesn’t like criticism, and she can’t cope with two or three cameramen following her,” Bower claimed.
“So she isn’t going to do very well as a politician.”
So, what might the Duchess do instead?
At this point in time, all options are on the table, Irving claims.
He explained: “Prince Harry and Meghan’s celebrity used to rest on the former’s connection to the Royal Family, but they’ve now been celebrities in their own right for so long that they don’t need to trade on that anymore. That’s no longer part of their lives.”

This has given the Sussexes freedom to pursue avenues that might have previously been closed off them, the royal author opines.
Indeed, it recently emerged that the couple had bought the movie rights to Meet Me At The Lake by Carley Fortune for upwards of £3million.
Fortune’s second novel, published this year, sold over 37,000 copies in its first week on shelves alone.
The New York Times bestselling author’s second novel revolves around Will and Fern, two long-lost lovers who rekindle their romance following a chance encounter.
