Meghan Markle has laid relatively low since appearing in a bombshell interview alongside Prince Harry, during which they laid bare some shocking revelations to talkshow host Oprah Winfrey. Prince Harry came back to the UK for the funeral of his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, a few weeks ago but has since returned to the US to be with his expectant wife and young son Archie. Meghan and Harry formally stepped back from their royal duties and do not plan on making a comeback to their old life anytime soon, which would explain all the ventures they have since embarked on – the latest being the Duchess’s book.

When is Meghan’s new book out?

Meghan’s book, The Bench, will be released as early as next month in June, understood to be published on June 8 to be precise.

The book centres on a special relationship between one father and son as seen through the mother’s eyes, according to publisher Random House.

In a statement, Meghan said: “The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born. That poem became this story.

“My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.”

The cover of the book features her official royal title, the Duchess of Sussex, rather than Meghan Markle.

The publication will be a picture book and has been illustrated by award-winning artist Christian Robinson.

The audio version of the book will be narrated by the Duchess of Sussex herself.

Glimpses of the book’s pages were released on Tuesday (May 4) alongside the announcement show joyful illustrations of multi-cultural families and representation.

Some took to Twitter to air their grievances about Meghan using her Duchess of Sussex title to byline the book.

One person wrote: “Why has she put her name on the book as Duchess of Sussex?!?! Seriously, after everything that’s been said and happened, at least put your name, Meghan Markle! Make your mind up Meghan!”

Another said: “Meghan Markle annoys me because for someone who supposedly doesn’t care about titles she sure throws it around on anything she does.

“Children’s book my Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. Using that title to sell more. I thought you didn’t need it Meghan lol.”

While another person tweeted: “Meghan Markle writing a children’s book – fair enough she has to make a living.

“Using the Duchess of Sussex as her moniker – laughable!!!! Quick enough to slate the family that gave her that title for her own gain when it suits her – inexcusable!! #MeghanMarkle #TheBench #Royal.”

However, many were quick to jump to the Duchess’s defence, pointing out Sarah Ferguson uses Duchess of York as her moniker despite being divorced from Prince Andrew.

One wrote: “To everyone freaking out that Meghan Markle is using the Duchess of Sussex on her book cover, get your facts straight.

“She can’t use HRH [her/his royal highness] anymore. She can use her title. Fergie uses Duchess of York on her books and she is divorced from the Royal Family.”

Another said: “She is not exploring the title, she is the Duchess of Sussex as the spouse of the Prince.

“I bought a book and will still buy it should it have only Meghan Markle on it. It’s a disrespect to Harry to not acknowledge his rightful title on the book.”

One person defended Meghan by saying: “If the Queen has given Meghan the Duchess of Sussex title, and has not stripped it, why are you so bothered if she uses it? It’s not that deep.”
