Mr Morgan has been a fierce critic of the Sussexes’ and has suggested the couple should be stripped of their royal titles by the Queen. Last month Harry and Meghan gave an incendiary interview to US talk show legend Oprah Winfrey in which they described their exit from royal service.

Meghan revealed she’d experienced acute loneliness and even suicidal thoughts.

She also claimed there were “concerns and conversations” within the family about Archie’s skin colour ahead of his birth.

Mr Morgan responded on Good Morning Britain, the show he then co-hosted, claiming he “didn’t believe a word” Meghan had said.

ITV announced Mr Morgan was leaving Good Morning Britain shortly afterwards whilst the presenter received 41,000 complaints to Ofcom.

Ofcom confirmed one of the complaints was from the Duchess herself.

However Sean Smith, author of ‘Meghan Misunderstood: The truth about Meghan Markle’, rejected claims of a feud between the pair.

He tweeted: “Let’s be clear. You need two people to conduct a feud.

“Meghan and Piers Morgan are NOT engaged in a feud.

“She has never even mentioned him.

“He however has made, it seems, hundreds of negative comments about her that have won him so much amazing publicity and continue to do so.”

During the interview with Ms Winfrey Meghan claimed there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be” prior to Archie’s birth.

She added: “That was relayed to me from Harry.

“Those were conversations that family had with him.”

Harry confirmed the subject had been raised adding: “That conversation, I am never going to share.

“At the time, it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

Both Meghan and Harry declined to name the Royal Family member involved in the conversation.

However Ms Winfrey later revealed the Sussexes had told her it wasn’t the Queen or Prince Philip.

Buckingham Palace released a statement in response expressing sadness at Meghan’s difficulties and vowing to address the matters raised “privately”.

It added “some recollections may vary” about the subjects brought up by Meghan and Harry.

After leaving ITV Mr Morgan stood by his comments on Twitter and argued he was defending free speech.

The broadcaster commented: “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview.

“I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t.

“Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.”
