Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, announced in February they are expecting a second child this year. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had quit their roles as senior working royals in March 2020 in a quest for personal and financial freedom. Babynames.com founder and CEO Jennifer Moss has since revealed how the Sussexes could “honour” both grandmothers when naming their second child.

Speaking on Us Weekly’s Royally Us, Ms Moss said: “I think that they really love staying traditional.

“They are very family-oriented people and I know there is a little contention between the Royal Family and Meghan and Harry.

“But I think deep down they do want to honour their ancestors.

“For a girl, we realised both Harry’s mom and Meg’s mom both have names that start with D and end in A.

“There’s Diana and there’s Doria so we thought wouldn’t it be cool if they did something very similar like Delia or Dahlia.

“That would be a way to honour both grandmothers.”

Harry and Meghan are yet to reveal what they will call their second child, but bookmakers Ladbrokes has suggested that Alfie is the early favourite for a baby boy, and Alexandra for a baby girl.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Huge congratulations to Harry and Meghan on the news of their pregnancy – of course all attention will now turn to the name game and as things stand it’s Alfie and Alexandra leading the way in the betting.”

He added: “Archie was a modern twist on a traditional name, so it’s no surprise Charles/Charlie are up there as things stand at 5/1 apiece.”

It comes as royal correspondent Katie Nicholl said the pregnancy announcement came as a surprise to the Queen.

She told the Royal Beat: “I think The Palace felt off guard about the pregnancy announcement [and] the Oprah announcement.

“It was clear that the Sussex’s were working as a machine in their own right – they weren’t working with the Palace. [Buckingham Palace] had made their minds up.

“They didn’t need until the 31 st of March to make that statement.

“My understanding from the sources that I have spoken to at the Palace was that they would [release it] earlier and bring an end to all this speculation.”

Meghan and Harry’s second child will be the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s 10th or 11th great-grandchild.

That entirely depends on the arrival of Zara Tindall’s baby, which is also due this year.
