Meghan Markle baby: How Meghan’s American nanny could BREAK royal tradition
Meghan and Prince Harry could welcome their first child into the world any day now.
The royal baby is due in April or early May and it’s expected the pair will get help with their tot in the form of a nanny.
The couple have settled into their new Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage ahead of the birth, and have also begun the search for a nanny, a source has revealed.
Born-and-bred American Meghan is allegedly keen to hire someone from her side of the pond, who will be “more relaxed” than traditional royal nannies.
She “favours an American over a Brit” and hasn’t ruled out having a male nanny – which would be a royal family first, according to the Mirror.
A source told the Mirror: “Meghan and Harry have clear ideas on how to bring up their children.
“Meghan was clear in telling recruiters she favours an American over a Brit and wants them to feel part of the family rather than a uniformed member of staff.
“That is important to her, she’s never hidden the fact she is fiercely proud of her American roots.
“They are keen to explore the possibility of a male nanny.”
Meghan and Harry are understood to have picked a posh Kensington firm to aid with their quest for a perfect nanny.
The successful candidate could earn up to £70,000 a year and will work at their new royal residence, Frogmore Cottage.
They will also have access to a car.
How Meghan’s nanny plans could break royal tradition
The Royal Family has traditionally favoured Norland nannies to take care of their tots.
While the Kensington agency reportedly helping Meghan does have Norland nannies on its books, it’s believed she’s after a more laid back option.
The fact that Meghan’s not looking for “a uniformed member of staff” suggests she probably won’t choose a Norland nanny, which would be another break with royal tradition for the Duchess.
If she picks an American royal nanny over a British one, then it won’t be the first time a royal family has had a nanny from abroad.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s hired Spaniard Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, to look after their children.
If Meghan does choose to hire a male nanny or “manny” as the source suggests she may, then that would be a royal first and a clear break from any previous palace childcare.
Bookmakers Ladbrokes reckons there’s a good chance Meghan will hire a manny.
The Ladbrokes odds are:
Female nanny – 4/7
Male nanny – 13/10
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Meghan is clearly doing things her own way and while it’s still likely her first-born’s nanny will be female, there’s every chance she gives a man the job.”
Royal watchers across the globe are eagerly awaiting the royal baby’s arrival.
But unlike previous royal births when Kate Middleton and Princess Diana posed for pictures with their newborns, it’s believed Meghan and Harry will avoid a public photo opportunity.
The couple recently launched an Instagram account and may post the first snaps of the royal baby on their themselves.
