Meghan Markle anger: Twitter sent into meltdown as furious Duchess fans attack documentary
Karl Stefanovic, 60 Minutes’ presenter, has been called out for his part in the new feature length programme that looked at Meghan Markle’s life and role in the royal family. Broadcast on Sunday, viewers immediately took to Twitter to condemn the former Today host, calling him a “hypocrite” after he previously accused the media of invading his privacy.
Opening the segment of the report, Mr Stefanovic said: “The couple appear to want a little privacy. Too much to ask? You bet. The public feel cheated, the tabloids have turned and the blame game – much of it directed at Meghan – is fierce.”
Critics were soon to respond, with many outraged at the apparent audacity of the Australian native.
One Twitter user wrote: “Watching the hypocrisy of Karl Stefanovic scrutinising a public person after pleading for his own privacy for two years – I mean, what is this?”
Another said: “@karlstefanovic and @60mins trying to vilify Meghan as the press did to Diana. Using scum like #KatieHopkins to do their dirty work.”
A third wrote: “Watching the hypocrisy of Karl Stefanovic scrutinizing a public person after pleading for his own privacy for two years – I mean, what is this?
The story has been branded as a “hatchet job” on Twitter.
Many of the comments came in reaction to the promotion clip posted to Twitter, which saw Katie Hopkins tearing into Meghan.
In the promo, Katie said of Meghan, “She’s a no-one,” and that, “she wears bad clothes… when did we ask or that?”

She added: “Meghan Markle is the biggest hypocrite there is.”
In one clip, Katie and Mr Stefanovic stand outside Buckingham Palace, where Katie exchanges a few heated words with a member of the public.
The man, presumably a tourist, said there was nothing wrong with Meghan, to which Katie replied, “there’s nothing right with her either”.
Katie Hopkins, who has no known expertise on the royal family, is infamous for her stirring comments on various societal issues, some of which have been slammed as “racist” and “islamaphobic”.

The comparison of Meghan’s situation to Princess Diana, Prince Harry and William’s decade mother, was also frowned upon.
The programme suggested that “the ghost of Princess Diana” could somehow save Meghan and Harry’s “fairytale”.
Much of the criticism has also been directed at Karl, who has in the past slammed others for speaking so freely about certain issues.
Last December, Mr Stefanovic was filmed swearing at a photographer who attempted to take his photo.
The footage showed a tense and angry Karl as he questioned the photographer over his intentions, asking: “Why are you shaking?
“It’s Christmas day. Have you got a disease?”
Another instance of the broadcaster attempting to safeguard his privacy came after his ex-wife, Cassandra Thorburn, engaged in a series of public outbursts about him.
In an interview with at Sydney Airport last year, Ms Thorburn described her ex-husband as “fake” and having “a lot to hide”.
he magazine, New Idea, bought the interview audio for $15,000 and published the comments.
This led Mr Stefanovic to increase his desire for privacy from the public eye, despite his being a high-profile media figure and household name in Australia.
Mr Stefanovic was co-host of the Today programme with Georgie Gardner for almost 14 years.
In December 2018, following the controversies, it was announced that he would no longer continue in the role, though in June it was reported that he would become a regular contributor to 2GB, a radio station in Sydney.
