Meghan Markle and Princess Kate ‘have never had chance to get close’

Meghan Markle and Princess Kate are said not to have “had a proper conversation in years” according to the author of the royal book Endgame Omid Scobie.

The relationship between the Duchess of Sussex and the Princess of Wales is thought to have been strained even before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry split from the Royal Family in 2020.

Omid Scobie – whose new book Endgame has made waves among royal watchers – claimed the alleged relationship troubles between Meghan and Princess Kate stemmed from the strained relationship between their husbands Prince Harry and Prince William.

Mr Scobie said: “Meghan and Kate’s friendship or relationship or lack of, it’s largely down to even in those early days, and we didn’t know it at the time, but we have since learned due to Harry’s memoir because William and his brother were just not close, Meghan and Kate almost never had a chance to get that close.”

The under-fire royal author claimed that even the Palace was aware of the acute differences between the two women, but that there was, at one point, a mutual respect between them.

Mr Scobie added: “The Palace was certainly never shy about telling all of the journalists in the press pack, including myself, that ‘these are two very different women. They’re not going to have much in common, but at least there’s respect there.’

“But I think as we’ve seen, as the years have gone by, that it’s even been questionable whether that respect is even there.”

Meghan Markle opened up about her time in the Royal Family during a 2021 bombshell interview with TV megastar Oprah Winfrey during which she said she was having “suicidal thoughts” when she was five months pregnant due to the stress she was under.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Mr Scobie continued: “For Kate, who is a mental health ambassador who champions the early years’ sector, including a focus on pregnancy right up until the age of five, you would think that that might have struck a chord with her.

“But there seems to be just this distance that has continued between the two and does to this day. I mean, as far as I know, they haven’t had a proper conversation in a number of years.”

Paul Burrell says Princess Kate has class and Meghan Markle does not

In Endgame, Mr Scobie took a swipe at Princess Kate calling her “cold and vacant” while suggesting she works “part-time” and has earned the nickname “Katie Keen” because the palace press office allegedly covers up her lower workload by saying she is “keen to learn”.

He also claimed the princess had “no interest in being friends with her sister-in-law” and compared the two, stating Kate isn’t known for her “leadership and outgoing nature”.

The royal author has been branded Meghan and Harry’s “mouthpiece” in the past, although he insists the couple had nothing to do with Endgame.

Similarly, sources close to the Sussexes have said that the pair wasn’t involved in the book.
