Meghan Markle and Prince Harry: Why Sussexes will want to return to Britain ASAP

Meghan Markle, 38, and Prince Harry, 35, have been enjoying downtime in Canada with their seven-month-old son Archie Harrison. The Sussexes have been away from Britain since November but after six weeks out of the limelight, the proactive couple may be itching to get back to business.

According to reports the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been busy planning the official launch of their charitable foundation Sussex Royal which they hope to make into a global brand.

Meghan and Prince Harry severed ties with Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge’s Royal Foundation last year in order to pursue their own solo project.

While Meghan and Harry have remained relatively quiet over the Christmas period, Prince William took the opportunity to launch a huge project on New Year’s Eve.

William announced he was launching the Earthshot Prize – “the most prestigious environment prize in history” to help tackle the challenge posed by climate change.

Both Meghan and Harry are also vocal supporters of environmental causes and will want to reclaim some space in the public’s attention before long.

During their time away from the UK, US native Meghan is believed to have been gathering together her LA contacts to help give Sussex Royal a boost over the pond.

Prince Harry has even teamed up with American megastar Oprah Winfrey for a series addressing mental health.

Speaking on Yahoo’s The Royal Box, The Sun’s royal correspondent, Emily Andrews said: “This project with Oprah, whilst it’s not going to be the first initiative of Sussex Royal, is a big push they are doing in the America market to try and attract donors for their new foundation.”

According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, the Sussexes will hope to launch their charitable foundation with a visit to the USA next year.

He said: “The Sussexes are currently on a six-week break.

“A US launch of their foundation Sussex Royal is rumoured for 2020.

“An official visit to the USA in the New Year would in my view be a very good idea and emphasise their extraordinary global charitable reach.”

If Meghan and Harry do have a US trip planned it is likely they will touch base in Britain first before heading to the States.

They have been away from their Windsor home for more than a month and returning to the UK would give them a chance to reconnect with their British base before embarking on a busy year.

While the date the Sussexes will leave Canada has not been confirmed it was previously reported they would return to Britain on January 3.

During their trip to Africa in September Meghan and Harry admitted to struggling in the royal limelight.

This prompted speculation they could leave Britain long-term and may consider setting up base in Meghan’s hometown, LA.

Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland is based in LA and has been spending Christmas with them.

Speaking on Yahoo’s the Royal Box, Ms Andrew’s added: “We know Doria and Meghan are very close, Doria has been a very special and intrinsic part of Archie’s life and it would make sense if they bought someplace out in LA.”

“Somewhere where they could go for holidays, school holidays and Doria could stay, too.”
