The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will join the likes of Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, the Foo Fighters, Ben Affleck and Jimmy Kimmel for the concert called Vax Live, set to go ahead on May 8. Royal author, Omid Scobie tweeted Meghan and Harry will join the event as “campaign chairs”.

Issuing a statement on the event, Meghan and Harry said: “Over the past year, our world has experienced pain, loss and struggle – together.

“Now we need to recover and heal – together.

“We can’t leave anybody behind.

“We will all benefit, we will all be safer, when everyone everywhere has equal access to the vaccine.

“We must pursue equitable vaccine distribution, and in that, restore faith in our common humanity.

“This mission couldn’t be more critical or important.”

Mr Scobie – who co-wrote the Meghan biography Finding Freedom – said the concert will be “celebrating the hope that Covid-19 vaccines” are being offered to families and communities around the world.

He tweeted: “Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will join @selenagomez, @JLO and more at #VaxLive on May 8 — a concert celebrating the hope that Covid-19 vaccines are offering families and communities around the world.

“The event will call on leaders to make sure vaccines are accessible for ALLDown pointing backhand index.”

Mr Scobie added: “The Sussexes are campaign chairs of #VaxLive and will deliver an urgent message for vaccine equity during the event.

“They have also led a coordinated drive across the private sector to raise critical funds for the vaccine-sharing program #COVAX.”

The concert comes as only 0.1 percent of worldwide doses have been “administered in low-income countries, leaving millions vulnerable”.

Other appearances include a number of close friends of Meghan including Chrissy Teigen and Gayle King.

It is believed US President Joe Biden as well as French President Emmanuel Macron, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Croatia’s leader Andrej Plenkovic will also appear.

To date, more than 140,000,000 cases of the virus have been reported around the world.

The overall death toll has reached a staggering 3,129,565.

Back in December, Meghan made a surprise appearance during CNN’s annual TV special, Heroes: An All-Star Tribute, to thank those who have helped during the coronavirus pandemic.

In her two-minute speech, she said: “But in the face of this devastating reality, we also saw the power of the human spirit and the remarkable ways that communities respond in challenging times.

“We saw the good in people, in our neighbors and in entire communities coming together to say they would not stand by while our neighbors went hungry.

“We saw communities standing up and taking action.”

Prince Harry has also spoken about the pandemic and said it was as though “Mother Nature sent us to our rooms”.

He said: “Somebody said to me at the beginning of the pandemic, it’s almost as though Mother Nature has sent us to our rooms for bad behaviour, to really take a moment and think about what we’ve done.

“It’s certainly reminded me about how interconnected we all are, not just as people but through nature.

“We take so much from her and we rarely give a lot back.”
