Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to SNUB Kate and William in favour of other Royal godparent

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their child Archie Harrison on May 6 at 5.26am at the Portland Hospital in Mayfair. While the christening of the young baby is expected not to take place for another couple of months, speculation about who the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will pick to act as godparents has been rife. But while some commentators have suggested Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge may be in the running, Victoria Arbiter told podcast The Windsors Meghan and Harry are likely to select a different royal.

Ms Arbiter said: “William won’t be a godparent because he is the uncle. It’s the same reason why Harry wasn’t a godparent to Charlotte, Louis and George.

“If we are looking at royal cousins, perhaps Princess Eugenie.

“Eugenie and Harry have always been close and I think Eugenie was especially grateful that Fergie was included in the royal wedding. She wasn’t invited to William and Kate’s wedding.”

While born six years apart, Prince Harry and cousin Eugenie had the opportunity to spend time together at family events also thanks to the close friendship between their mothers – Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson.

In addition to close family, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may tap trusted friends to become godparents to their son, whose full name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Ms Arbiter continued: “When we look at Harry’s side, we will see friends of Diana’s, friends of Charles’, perhaps Spencer cousins.

“Anyway, he can bring Diana into the fold, as well. And then there’s those friends who have proven their loyalty, they’ve proven that are discreet and have been there through thick and thin.”

The Duchess of Sussex is also expected to play a vital role in the selection process and the royal commentator suggested Meghan may have given away a key clue as to who she could ask.

She added: “On Meghan’s side, she’s got a wealth of close girlfriends – Jessica Mulroney’s name has been thrown into the mix.

“Anyone really whose children were bridesmaids and page boys at the royal wedding.

“That is the indicator of the type of friends they have been to Meghan.”

Ms Mulroney, the daughter-in-law to former Canadian Prime Minister Bill Mulroney, has long been a close friend to Meghan Markle. Her daughter Ivy, 5, acted as a bridesmaid for the Duchess while her twin brothers John and Brian, 7,  were page boys.

William and Kate’s eldest children, George and Charlotte, were also part of the wedding party alongside three of Prince Harry’s godchildren – Zalie Warren, Florence van Cutsem and Jasper Dyer. Meghan’s goddaughters Rylan and Remi Litt completed the group.

There’s also the chance Zara and Mike Tindall could be in the running, as Prince Harry was made godfather to their second daughter, Lena, in March.
