Meghan Markle and Prince Harry pick up ‘awfully odd’ new cause
Harry & Meghan documentary series teased in Netflix trailer
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s latest foray into charity work is “awfully odd” considering their family record, author Christopher Andersen has claimed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex this week came out in support of a charity that wants to engage “men as allies in equality.”
Washington-based Equimundo wants to promote “environments that support boys and young men to live out diverse, equitable and healthy masculinities”.
Harry and Meghan announced the move on Tuesday and said they are “proud to have supported this report as well as Equimundo’s continued work to promote gender equality around the globe.”
But Andersen noted the charity’s goal is somewhat at odds with the couple’s relationship with their own fathers.

Speaking to US Weekly, he said: “They have this new issue they’ve embraced which is men care, I think they call it.
“You give men the same attention, letting them participate in the family, being more concerned about men’s emotional wellbeing and all that.
“Again, awfully odd for people who have apparently turned their backs on their own fathers to become such champions of fathers everywhere.”
Neither Harry nor Meghan have had the best of relationships with their dads. In fact, tensions have been high since the couple openly criticized the Royal Family for their behaviour towards them before their departure from the institution in 2020.
The Duke claimed family and royal aides failed to support them as they struggled with public pressure.

While Harry stepped up in May to show his support for the King during his Coronation, he was quick to return to the United States – albeit the swift visit was partially the result of his son Prince Archie Harrison turning four the same day.
The couple have not spent any time together with the Royal Family since they all joined forces at the late Queen’s funeral last September.
The Duchess herself has long had a difficult relationship with her father, Thomas Markle Sr.
The pair are believed not to have met in person since shortly before Meghan and Harry’s wedding in Windsor in 2018.
The lighting director had been scheduled to travel to the UK to escort his daughter down the aisle but was forced to pull out at the last minute.
Mr Markle was discovered to have struck a deal with paparazzi to have seemingly candid pictures of himself buying books about the UK to prepare for his visit days before the ceremony.
