Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could have earned $1m for event appearance
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped out for their first event since announcing they were leaving the royal family. Meghan and Harry attended the JP Morgan-sponsored alternative investment summit in Florida on Thursday.
And the royal couple could have pocketed between $500,000 (£388,000) and $1million (£776,000) for the appearance, the Daily Mail reported.
Harry gave a speech at the exclusive event in Miami, which is said to have been attended by billionaires.
Despite speculation over his fee it is not known if he was paid for the engagement.
In his speech, Harry reportedly discussed how he has been in therapy for the past few years to help him cope with the loss of his mother.
He also said he had no regrets about walking away from royal life as he did not want his wife and son Archie to experience what he went through when younger.
A source told The New York Post: “Harry spoke about mental health and how he has been in therapy for the past few years to try to overcome the trauma of losing his mother.
“He talked about how the events of his childhood affected him and that he has been talking to a mental health professional.
“Harry also touched on Megxit, saying while it has been very difficult on him and Meghan, he does not regret their decision to step down as senior royals because he wants to protect his family.
“He does not want Meghan and their son Archie to go through what he did as a child.”
Another insider told Page Six that the Sussexes’ appearance at the event was “a very smart move to get in with some of the world’s richest people”.
They added: “The conference is all about building wealth for future generations, and making the world better for future generations, a topic close to Harry’s heart.

“Harry talked a lot about his and Meghan’s decision to step down as senior royals, because of the trauma he suffered and how he doesn’t want the same to happen to his family.
“He said despite how difficult the separation with the royal family has been, he does not regret their decision, saying that he and Meghan are optimistic about their future, optimistic about being able to be financially independent while still working on projects that mean a lot to them and supporting the charities they believe in.”
Before Harry’s speech, American breakfast show presenter Gayle King reportedly introduced Meghan who spoke about her love for her husband.
A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: “I can confirm reports the Sussexes attended a JP Morgan gathering in Miami yesterday, where the Duke spoke.”
It comes as Meghan and Harry are quitting royal duties and setting up home in Canada.
They are currently staying in a £10million mansion on Vancouver Island.
The Sussexes revealed plans to step back as senior royals in a bombshell statement last month.
It came after they spent six weeks out of the spotlight over Christmas.
Meghan and Harry had hoped for a dual role but the plan was deemed unworkable.
Following crisis talks to negotiate their future direction, the Queen said she was “pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family”.
The Sussexes are dropping their HRH styles in exchange for financial freedom.
They are expected to strike lucrative deals with film and television companies, including Netflix.
