Meghan Markle and Prince Harry add THIRD fence to keep public away from Frogmore Cottage
The Windsor home of Meghan and Harry is now being protected by a new, hand-made, woven hazel fence, picture shows. The third ring of protection sits behind a traditional wooden picket fence, which already protected the Sussex cottage from the eye of any curious person trying to take a peek inside the garden from nearby paths.
The new fence, believed to have cost the Royal Household approximately £12,000, further cuts out any views of the cottage, as it covers the one-inch-wide gaps left by the vertical wooden panels.
The cottage is protected by another fence, in metal, running around its perimeter.
This area is patrolled by the police and watched by CCTV when the family-of-three is at home.
Between the metal fence and the new hand-made protection, there is a 1,500ft wide private and secure field, which separate The Long Walk from the cottage.
Privacy is guaranteed in the cottage also thanks to the thick vegetation immediately surrounding the building, with several trees and bushes allowing bystanders to see only a very small fraction of the more elevated parts of the Sussex home.
Pictures taken during the spring show Frogmore Cottage still having only two fences, leading to think the new protection has been installed in recent months.
In May, members of the public were allowed to walk in the proximities of Frogmore Cottage to visit nearby Frogmore House, a palace owned by the Royal Family and open to visitors at least three days a year.
The decision to go ahead with the open days stunned one member of the staff at Frogmore House, shocked by “how close the public can get” to Meghan and Harry’s cottage, according to the MailOnline.
Speaking shortly after the birth of Archie Harrison, one source working at Frogmore House told the publication: “We were expecting it to be cancelled, but it was given the go-ahead.
“But there are a lot more restrictions in place than previous years for obvious reasons.
“They’ve fitted new security cameras outside the cottage and brand new wooden gates.
“Still, it’s very surprising how close the public can get.”
It isn’t clear why Meghan and Harry have decided to raise another fence on their grounds, whether over security or privacy concerns.
Express.co.uk has contacted Buckingham Palace for a comment.
In October, Meghan and Harry voiced their struggles and concerns over being constantly under the public eye and media scrutiny when they spoke to ITV’s Tom Bradby.
And they demanded their privacy to be respected by launching a legal case against the Mail On Sunday, accused of misuse of private information after publishing extracts of a private letter from Meghan to her estranged father Thomas Markle Snr.
Meghan and Harry are spending their first Thanksgiving as parents with Doria Ragland, the Duchess’ mother.
A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed earlier this month the royals are taking a six-week break, but didn’t release any details concerning where they will stay for security and privacy reasons.
According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, Meghan will be “wearing the apron” today and gather her loved ones around the table.
She told OK! magazine: “Meghan loves being in the kitchen.
“She’s a talented chef and takes great pleasure in bringing people together over a family meal.
“There won’t be any staff helping her – she’ll definitely be wearing the apron”.
