Meghan Markle had a “key difference” from her sister-in-law, Kate, according to royal commentators. The Duchess of Sussex and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly never managed to form a close “bond” while they were in the monarchy together, with stories emerging that one of them may have cried during an argument regarding the Sussex wedding. Channel 5 documentary, ‘Kate: Our Queen in Waiting’, explored how the two women differed in their approaches.

Narrator David Riley told viewers: “Whatever the truth of the wedding incident, Kate was the beneficiary in the press.

“Royal watchers soon discovered that behind the scenes, the women may not have bonded.”

Vanity Fair Royal Editor Katie Nicholl agreed: “I’m not sure there was a natural connection between Meghan and Kate.

“But I think clearly there were tensions even early on.”

Mail on Sunday Royal Editor Emily Andrews added: “The key difference really was how the two women dealt with it.

“Catherine, as far as I’m told, just ignores what’s written about her.

“Meghan, on the other hand, got very very exercised with what was written.”

The famous adage ‘never complain, never explain’ is typically expected of members of the Royal Family.

However, as many commentators pointed out, criticism of the Duchess of Sussex contained racism in a way that never happened for the Duchess of Cambridge.

Meghan herself explained the difference during her candid interview with Oprah Winfrey.

She said: “Kate was called ‘Waity Katie’, waiting to marry William.

“While I imagine that was really hard — and I do, I can’t picture what that felt like — this is not the same.

“And if a member of his family will comfortably say, ‘We’ve all had to deal with things that are rude,’ rude and racist are not the same.”

BBC Royal Correspondent Daisy McAndrew also told Channel 5: “There were some media outlets which ran some really disgraceful articles.

“Very old-fashion opinions, borderline racist opinions. The trouble is that one article like that is one too many.”
