Meghan Markle and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge have been dogged by persistent rumours of a rift between them since the Duchess of Sussex joined the Royal Family in May 2019. But the two duchesses put that speculation to rest when they appeared together at Trooping the Colour to celebrate the Queen’s official birthday in London. Meghan and Kate were seen beaming and laughing as they shared a carriage with Prince Harry and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall to oversee the ceremony at Horse Guard Parade. 

Meghan, donning a simple blue frock with matching feathered hat, made her first public appearance since presenting her son Archie to the world shortly after his birth back in May.

Archie was not present.The Duchess of Sussex and Duchess of Cambridge were seen waving at the crowds who assembled outside Buckingham Palace to catch a glimpse of the Royal Family. The monarch travelled to the celebrations alone on the Scottish State Coach as Prince Philip is believed to have decided to forego the Queen’s birthday parade as he did in 2018.

Prince Charles and Prince William are however expected to flank their mother and grandmother during Trooping the Colour.

And the public will expect more cheeky antics from royal youngsters Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis if they are there.

Later, the royals will make their way to Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the spectacular air display, which includes the famous Red Arrows.

The Queen turned 93 on April 21 but Trooping the Colour is the official celebration of the Queen’s birthday and her reign.

Meghan, 37, made her debut as a member of the royal family at last year’s event where she wore a nude off-the-shoulder dress and matching hat and waved to royal fans who donned Union Jack flags in honour of the monarch.

Thousands of flag-bearing spectators are expected to line the Mall as members of the Horse Guards Parade perform an impressive display of pomp and pageantry in Whitehall.

The procession involves more than 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians who will move from Buckingham Palace down the Mall.

A 41-gun salute in honour of the Queen will also take place in nearby Green Park by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

The event finishes with a Royal Air Force (RAF) flyover watched by the Royal Family on Buckingham Palace balcony.

Trooping the Colour has taken place on the second Saturday of June in a tradition dating back more than 260 years – but the Queen’s real birthday was on April 21 when she turned 93.
