Meghan Markle and Harry’s son Archie to grow up as ‘American child with American accent’

Meghan and Harry relocated to Los Angeles in late March, days before officially stepping down as senior royals. This move will see the couple spending more time in the US rather than in the UK, which means Archie will likely acquire a different accent, habits and culture than his royal cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, according to royal author Penny Junor.

She said: “Archie is different.

“He’s in a different country so won’t grow up around extended family.

“I think the royals will all be rather sad about it.

“He will grow up as an American child with an American accent – like the child of an American celebrity, probably with a lot of security.”

The relocation to the US of his parents won’t affect in any way the love Archie will be provided throughout his childhood, the expert continued.

Speaking to the Mirror, Ms Junor added: “But he won’t be short of love.

“Harry is fiercely proud of his son.

“It’s a life wish come true for him.”

Her comments come just days before Archie’s first birthday.

Archie is turning one on May 6 and, according to a royal source, he will be celebrating his special day only with his parents.

A source told the Mirror: “It will be just the three of them.

“Meghan understandably refuses to take any risks with guests or travel.”

The source added the couple were planning to return to the UK in the near future to be able to celebrate Archie’s first birthday with the royals.

However, the coronavirus pandemic would make this impossible at the moment, as senior royals are all self-isolating in different residences scattered across Britain.

Meghan and Harry were said to be planning a trip to Britain in June, to attend the annual Trooping the Colour parade – cancelled earlier this year by Buckingham Palace in accordance with the Government’s guidelines on COVID-19.

While it will be impossible for Archie to be close to his royal relatives anytime soon, Ms Junor believes Meghan and Harry will be in touch with the extended family on his birthday.

She said: “Now they are cut off from family it is hard for everybody.

“On the day they will no doubt make many calls to family.

“They will have a lovely cake. Maybe an avocado cake.

“I would think the Queen will speak to them and definitely Archie’s grandfather, Charles.

“But perhaps not his other grandfather Thomas Markle, which is very sad.”

Meghan and Harry will publicly mark Archie’s first birthday this year by releasing a picture.

A spokesman for the couple told the Sunday Times last week: “You can expect to see him.”

Little is known on how the couple will share the snap of the toddler.

At the moment, the couple continue to have their Sussex Royal website and Instagram account live.

However, they haven’t used them since March 30, when they published a statement thanking their fans for the support given and announcing they would work behind the scenes on their non-profit organisation for the time being.
