Meghan Markle and Harry unfollow everyone on Instagram in latest ‘forces for change’ move

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s latest move is part of their ongoing campaign to raise awareness of charities, groups and people making a difference in their communities and the wider world. In a post on their Instagram page, SussexRoyal, the couple  urged their 9.2 million followers to nominate a special cause for them to follow for the month of August. After whittling the suggestions down, on Monday they will follow 15 Instagram accounts of individuals or communities most deserving of publicity.

Harry and Meghan said: “For the month of August we look to you for help.

“We want to know who YOUR Force for Change is…. Each month, we change the accounts we follow to highlight various causes, people or organisations doing amazing things for their communities and the world at large.

“Over the next few days please add your suggestions into the comments section: someone you look up to, the organisation doing amazing work that we should all be following, an account that inspires you to be and do better (or that simply makes you feel good), or the handle that brims with optimism for a brighter tomorrow.

“We will choose 15 accounts and follow them next Monday, as we spend the month of August acknowledging the Forces for Change in all of our lives.”

The new parents have just weeks to go until they officially launch their “environmental and community initiative” after splitting from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the Royal Foundation earlier this year.

The Sussexs split from the Cambridges came as a shock to royal fans, as the Royal Foundation was the brainchild of William and Harry to promote their charitable work.

Harry and Meghan’s new platform, which is expected to be called the Sussex Royal Foundation, has already received a boost from Walt Disney to celebrate the release of the remake of The Lion King movie.

As part of Disney’s Protect the Pride campaign, which aims to save the world’s rapidly diminishing lion population, the movie giant donated cash to the charitable body.

A post on Harry and Meghan’s Instagram page announcing the donation indicated that the couple would go public with their project this autumn.

This prompted speculation that they would choose southern Africa, where they will conduct their first royal tour as a family-of-three, as the perfect backdrop for them to kick-off their personalised project.

This week Meghan’s front cover of her guest edited September issue of British Vogue was released, featuring 15 women from various backgrounds with the slogan “Forces for change”.

Leading climate change activist Greta Thunberg is among the ladies picked to appear on the cover of the book, which also includes an interview with Michelle Obama, written by Meghan.
