Meghan Markle and Harry under fire for LA move – ‘Some dedication to the Commonwealth!’

Meghan, Harry and Archie are believed to have flown to just before the border between Canada and the US was shut due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now believed to be living on lockdown near Hollywood, in accordance with the rules issued by the west coast state.

This move, which according to a source has been a long time coming, has left some royal fans outraged.

One, argued it was unlikely Meghan and Harry would be under less scrutiny in LA than in British Columbia, one of the Canadian states with the strictest privacy regulation.

They wrote on Twitter: “I sincerely don’t understand them. Really.

“They want to ‘protect their family’ by moving to LA?

“Where the privacy laws are not as strict, so that the paparazzi will be all over them and Harry will get all the flashbacks again because of the ‘clicks of the cameras’?”

The royal fan then questioned Meghan and Harry’s January pledge to step back as senior royals while “continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages”.

Unlike Canada, the US isn’t a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The royal fan added: “And how about their ‘work for the Commonwealth’? Please.”

Another royal fan chimed in and, replying to this comment, said: “Shaking my head… some dedication to the Commonwealth…”

Other royal fans spoke about Meghan and Harry’s desire for privacy clashed with Hollywood’s celebrity focus.

One wrote on Twitter: “There was me thinking they wanted privacy.”

Another ironically added: “Of course. LA What a better place to hide in plain sight for privacy.”

Chris Ship, the ITV’s royal editor, also highlighted how Canada would be a far safer home for the Sussexes during the coronavirus crisis.

He wrote on Twitter: “I can’t help but think Canada would be a safer place to be than the US #coronavirus”.

The total number of people tested positive for coronavirus in Canada on March 26 was 4,018 – of which 725 in British Columbia, the state that became Meghan, Archie and Harry’s home for the past few months.

However, in Los Angeles alone, the number of coronavirus cases has surged past 3,000 yesterday, with the state’s death toll hitting 80 in the afternoon.

News of Meghan and Harry’s move to Los Angeles broke yesterday.

A source told the Sun: “Harry and Meghan have left Canada now for good.

“The borders were closing and the flights were stopping. They had to get out.

“But this move was planned for some time. They realised Canada would not work out for various reasons and they want to be based in the Los Angeles area.

“They have a big support network there.

“It’s where their new team of Hollywood agents and PRs and business managers are based.

“Meghan has lots of friends there and, of course, her mum Doria.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will step down as senior royals on March 31, after which will start a 12-month transition period.
