Meghan Markle and Harry to reveal ‘world of pain’ on ITV: When is Meghan documentary on?

A new documentary titled Harry & Meghan: An African Journey will be shown on ITV, detailing their recent tour in Africa. The insight into their first tour as a family will also reveal the struggles the Duke and Duchess face from life in the spotlight.

A trailer for the documentary showed the couple taking a few private moments together during their tour of Africa.

ITV anchorman Tom Bradby said the documentary will reveal “world of pressure and pain” brought on by “balancing their public duties and family life”.

Narrating a 20-second trailer for the documentary Mr Bradby said: “The story of their time in Africa was one of passion for their work, pride and happiness but also a world of pressure and pain behind the brave faces.”

An ITV spokesman said that the programme would give “exclusive access to the world’s most talked-about couple, exploring their compassion and work, alongside the challenges and pressure they face living as a young family on the global stage trying to balance their public duties and private life under media scrutiny”

Harry and Meghan visited Africa in September in what was their first tour as a family of three.

Their 10-day visit saw them meet Desmond Tutu, visit charities and dance with residents.

Harry also retraced the steps his mother Princess Diana had made when she too visited Africa in 1997.

Prince Harry said of his visit: “Ever since I came to this continent as a young boy, trying to cope with something I can never possibly describe, Africa has held me in an embrace that I will never forget.”

The Sussex’s visit to Africa was somewhat overshadowed by an emotional statement Harry issued, criticising the press for publishing “relentless propaganda” about his wife.

He announced Meghan was taking legal action against the Mail on Sunday for publication of extracts of a personal letter sent to her father Thomas Markle.

When is Harry & Meghan: An African Journey documentary on?

The one-hour long documentary will be shown on ITV1 on Sunday, October 20 at 9pm.

Mr Bradby said of the documentary: “This is the third documentary I’ve made with Prince Harry in Africa.

  • Prince Harry breaks down into tears over parenthood challenges – VIDEO

“I expected it to be an interesting journey but this ended up being a fascinating insight taking in their passion for their work, their private happiness and the challenge and pressure of balancing their public duties and family life.”

Harry also showed emotion on Tuesday night when he spoke at the WellChild Awards.

The event is for seriously ill children and Harry paid tribute to the “inspirational” children and families he had met.

The Prince was overcome with emotion as he explained how the event pulled at his heartstrings now he was a father.

He fought back tears and was comforted by television presenter Gaby Roslin as he remembered his feelings the year before when Meghan was pregnant and they contemplated how they would feel if their child became ill.

He said: ”Sorry,” before being able to continue speaking.

“I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tight during the awards, both of us thinking what it would be like to be parents one day, and more so, what it would be like to do everything we could to protect and help our child should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time.

“And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you pulls at my heartstrings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own.”
