Meghan Markle and Harry ‘taking us for fools’ over ‘childish’ behaviour warns royalist fan
According to The Daily Telegraph, during her appearance at Wimbledon, one of the Duchess of Sussex’s protection officers prevented a nearby fan from taking pictures of the royal. Speaking to the paper, Sally Jones, a media consultant, revealed how she was blocked from taking any photographs of the royal during Serena Williams match. The self-proclaimed royalist criticised the Duchess and Prince Harry while also issuing a warning to their future.
She told the paper: “I’m actually a royalist.
“I think Meghan is a highly talented, lively woman who is a breath of fresh air for the Royal Family.
“But It saddens me that they are weakening their impact through this behaviour.
“It makes them look silly, it’s childish and takes us for fools.”
The couple have also been involved in some minor controversy over the last week after they announced that they would not reveal the identity of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s godparents.
Since the start of their relationship, the pair have decided to keep certain aspects of their lives private.
The pair chose not to use the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital, unlike many other members of the Royal Family, while it was announced that the Duchess had gone into labour hours after she had given birth.
Commenting on Meghan’s decision at Wimbledon, a royal source told The Daily Telegraph: “It’s not unusual for people accompanying Members of the Royal Family at private, or public, events to ask members of the public not to take photographs.
“It is to enable Members of the Royal Family to engage with people and events.”
The Royal Family were under the microscope recently when the annual spending figures were released last month which was revealed that the taxpayer had paid £2.4million to renovate Frogmore Cottage.
Sir Michael Stevens, the Keeper of the Privy Purse, the Queen’s chief financial advisor said of the renovation work: “The property had not been the subject of work for some years and had already been earmarked for renovation in line with our responsibility to maintain the condition of the Occupied Royal Palaces estate.
“The Sovereign Grant covered the work undertaken to turn the building into the official residence and home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their new family.
“Substantially all fixtures and fittings were paid for by Their Royal Highnesses.”
Overall, royal accounts revealed that the cost of the Royal Family to the taxpayer hit £67million during 2018-19.
