Meghan Markle and Harry latest: How this big announcement will reveal royal future

Meghan Markle, 38, and Prince Harry, 35, were among Royal Family members to send a heartfelt message of support to those suffering in Australia’s wildfires over the weekend. The couple have remained relatively quiet during their six-week break from royal duty but broke their silence on Sunday to share an emotionally-charged message on Instagram.

The heartfelt post on their Sussex Royal account encouraged fans to donate to organisations helping support those affected by the fires.

Since their Instagram account launched last year the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have actively used it to promote charitable organisations and initiatives close to their hearts.

The account has gained 10 million followers in less than a year and an official launch of the Sussex Royal foundation is expected in 2020.

According to one royal commentator, the launch will be a key indicator as to how Meghan and Harry wish to continue their roles within the royal family.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “We await the launch of Harry and Meghan’s Sussex Royal Foundation to discover their intentions.

“It all depends on what they mean to do with the Sussex Royal Foundation, where it will be based, what celebrity links there will be and whether it will have a branch in the USA.

“They are expected to make their plans clear soon.

“There are likely to be important celebrity links to their future charitable work such as Harry’s collaborating with Oprah Winfrey for a TV documentary series on mental health due to be aired this year.”

According to Mr Fitzwilliams during Meghan and Harry’s break away from Britain the ‘inner core’ of the Royal Family which consists of the Queen and royals in the direct line of succession have played a key role.

He said: “During their six-week absence the ‘inner core’ of the monarchy has appeared to be those in the direct line of succession and George’s siblings.

“How the ‘inner core’ is defined in future will depend on what Harry and Meghan decide to do in the New Year.”

Meghan and Harry’s admission they were struggling in the royal limelight last autumn prompted speculation they could eventually choose to ditch their royal roles altogether.

According to reports, the couple have been working hard gathering together their influential contacts while away to ensure Sussex Royal has as global a reach as possible.

While Prince Harry and Meghan garnered more media attention than Prince William last year, the future king has launched a huge initiative during the Sussexes’ break from the UK.

On New Year’s Eve Prince William announced the Earthshot prize dubbed the “most prestigious environment prize in history” in a bid to tackle climate change.

Mr Fitzwilliams praised the move as ‘superb.’

He said: “William’s eye-catching charitable initiatives on the environment and mental illness have been superb.

“Also after a dreadful year for the royal family, this is marvellous public relations which is so vital for the royals.”

While Meghan and Harry’s plans for 2020 are still unclear William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge continue to prepare for their future roles as King and Queen Consort.

The couple attended church with the Queen in Sandringham on Sunday in a key show of support following a difficult year for the Royal Family.

As second-in-line to the throne, Prince William is a member of the Royal Family’s “inner core.”

There is a chance William will have to take on some of the royal responsibilities left behind by Prince Andrew following his shock withdrawal from his royal role.
