Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s birth announcement for their newborn daughter Lilibet Diana is a “complete contradiction” from the secrecy surrounding Archie’s birth in May 2019. Royal expert Chris Ship noted that the couple insisted upon privacy for Archie’s arrival, but this time, have told the press “straight up and down” which hospital Lili was born in. Meghan and Harry welcomed their baby daughter on Friday, June 4 in California.

ITV’s Royal Editor Chris Ship said, “Do you remember that Harry and Meghan didn’t want to say which hospital the baby was born at in London and we had a massive to and fro with the palace spokespeople saying ‘No it’s private information.'”

“Why did they then tell us straight up and down which hospital Lili was born at?”

He continued, “It’s on their terms but a complete contradiction to what they did before, which was tell us we don’t want to tell you what hospital Archie was born at because that’s private information.”

“And they never told us, we’re still kind of guessing which one it was.”

Archie Harrison was born whilst the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were still working members of the Royal Family.

Buckingham Palace released a statement on May 6, 2019 to say that Meghan had given birth at 5:26am and that her husband had been present at the birth.

A framed notice of the birth was placed on the ceremonial easel behind the gates of Buckingham Palace.

The Duke and Duchess declined to give any more information about the birth, although Palace spokespeople confirmed that the baby had weighted 7lbs 3oz.

The couple also didn’t participate in a photocall outside the Lindo Wing, which the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Diana had previously done.

Instead, the couple chose to wait two days before having a photocall in St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle, to show the world their firstborn child.

Whilst Harry and Meghan refused to share details of Archie’s birth, much was revealed with the release of his birth certificate which showed that he had been born at Portland Hospital.

The hospital had previously been used by Sarah Ferguson to give birth to Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.

Lilibet weighed 7lbs 11oz and a spokesperson for the couple said both mother and baby were “healthy and well, and settling in at home”.

The couple said on their website Archewell that Lili was “more than we could ever have imagined” and thanked the public for their support.

She has been named after both the Queen and Princess Diana, as the Queen’s childhood nickname was Lilibet.

Lilibet Diana has now joined her two-year-old brother Archie Harrison at their family home in Montecito, California.
