The Duchess of Sussex feels that, had roles been reversed, “she would have gone out of her way to make Kate feel part of the family”. Meghan first met the Duchess of Cambridge back in January 2017, as her relationship with Harry began to blossom. They met at Kate and William’s home, but the meeting was by all accounts a brief one.

Royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claimed in their book ‘Finding Freedom’, that up until that moment William’s wife had seemingly not shown much interest in finding out more about Harry’s new girlfriend.

Relations between the two women would remain cool, as they struggled to find much in common with one another.

The failure to develop a close friendship left Meghan deeply frustrated.

A royal source told the Daily Mail: “Of all the people in the Royal Family, Meghan said she had hoped to develop a close relationship with Kate, but was never given the chance.

“It was hurtful and disappointing for Meghan.

“Meghan said Kate never gave her the benefit of the doubt or reached out to her when she was at her lowest, struggling to adjust with very few friends.

“Had the roles been reversed, Meghan said she would have gone out of her way to make Kate feel part of the family.

“She would have embraced their sisterhood.”

Harry’s marriage to Meghan raised the hopes of both the media and royal fans that the young married couples would go on to forge close ties and usher in a new Royal era.

They were famously dubbed by the press as the new “Fab Four”, but expectations of a harmonious co-existence soon began to disappear.

Signs that all was not well behind the scenes emerged in March 2019, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would be moving out of Kensington Palace, which they had shared with William and Kate.

Then, in June, the Duke and Duchess said they were quitting the Royal Foundation that William and Harry had set up in 2009, to start their own organisation.
