The picture book, which was released on June 8 this year, flopped in the UK market selling a measly 3,212 copies in its first week but was a success in the US, becoming a New York Times bestseller. As a result Royal Family expert Neil Sean told viewers on his YouTube channel that he believes Meghan Markle has been encouraged to carry out readings of the book online to boost sales.
The comments come as The Duchess of Sussex tells the Brightly Storytime channel: “Hi and welcome to Brightly Storytime! I am Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and today I am going to read to you my book called The Bench!”
She precedes to read the book which is only 169-words long.
At the end of the clip, The Duchess of Sussex can be seen closing the book, explaining: “I hope you enjoyed The Bench, I loved being able to share it with you.”
She adds: “And now I hope you’re able to go and find your own special bench, or chair, or little quiet nook. Just a place that means something to you that you can share with someone you love.”

But in response to the video, Mr Sean suggested that the Duchess is carrying out the activity because in the UK the book “hasn’t really scraped in sales”.
He went on to claim how the decision of Meghan to reportedly sign up to Penguin Random House’s YouTube channel is therefore to “kickstart” sales of the book.
Speculating on the reasons behind this, Mr Sean suggested that it could be because The Bench is “simply too expensive” for the type of book it is.
It comes as the book’s price tag was originally set at £12.99 in Waterstones but it can now be picked up for £9.99.

On its release the Daily Mail reported how the book’s 169-words means it costs an astonishing 5.6p a word.
Mr Sean also suggested how Britons are not sure who the book is “aimed at” in terms of age group as he considered reasons as to why Meghan has entered the digital realm to promote the book further.
Speaking about The Bench on its release, Meghan explained how it is in fact “a love story”.
The Duchess said: “It’s really just about growing with someone and having this deep connection and this trust…

“So that, be at good times or bad, you know that you had this person. I really hope that people can see this as a love story that transcends the story of my family.”
The book is dedicated to “the man and the boy who make my heart go pump-pump”, a touching reference to Harry and two-year-old Archie.
The first picture features a bearded ginger father – who bears a strong resemblance to Harry – cradling a smiling baby on a bench under a tree along with two dogs.
