Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sent shockwaves around the world after they launched an astonishing attack on the Royal Family – in a move that could threaten the future of the British monarchy. In the two-hour interview, the Duchess of Sussex said she struggled to adapt to life inside The Firm and claimed the lack of support from royal aides drove her to contemplate suicide.

The 39-year-old also claimed an unnamed member of the Royal Family issued a racial slur towards her unborn child, while she was pregnant with Archie.

The shocking claims were first aired in the US overnight on Sunday and watched 24 hours later by an audience of more than 11 million UK viewers on ITV.

In a statement on Tuesday, Buckingham Palace said the Royal Family was “saddened” to hear about the “challenging” past few years for the couple.

The Palace added the issues brought up, including those of race, were “concerning” and would be addressed internally.

A source close to Meghan said the former actress “couldn’t be happier with the end result” of the interview.

The insider added the Palace “should be relieved” that Meghan did not go into more details about her allegations.

Speaking to the Mail Online, they said: “Meghan said she has absolutely no regrets about what was said during the interview and that speaking with Oprah was both cathartic and transformative – the best decision she ever made, other than marrying Harry.

“Meghan said the royal institution should be relieved that she didn’t name names or go into even more details of what went on behind closed doors.

“Meghan said waiting to share her story with the entire world seemed like an eternity and that she couldn’t be happier with the end result.

“She said she’s moved on, but is open to communicating with anyone from the Royal Family who wants to engage in a constructive conversation.”

During the interview with Oprah, an emotional Meghan revealed she considered ending her own life as she struggled to adapt to her new position inside the Royal Family.

She told Oprah: “I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”

Meghan later claimed while she was pregnant with her first child, an unnamed member of the Royal Family raised “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born”.

Oprah then pressed Meghan further and asked if there were concerns her child would be “too brown”.

In response, Meghan said: “If that is the assumption you are making, that is a pretty safe one.”

Meghan refused to name the person behind the alleged comments, insisting it would be ”very damaging to them”.

There were also revelations about the rift between Harry and his father the Prince of Wales.

Harry claimed was financially cut off by the family, including his own security, just as he was about to embark on his new life with Meghan and son Archie across the Atlantic.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
