Meghan branded ‘hypocritical’ over environmental issues ahead of Tatler cover issue

The Duchess of Sussex is being honoured for the society bible’s 310th issue, with a picture of her from Canadian business website Bay Street Bull in 2015. The magazine will feature comment pieces from four writers, including Lionel Shriver and Lynn Barber, discussing whether Meghan “divides or conquers”. Ahead of the magazine being published on October 31, Tatler also surveyed 2,000 British people to ask what they really thought of Meghan.

The results showed 44 percent of people who were polled preferred Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, to Meghan.

Around 23 percent believe Meghan and Harry would be better off moving to Los Angeles.

And 39 percent perceived the Duchess to be hypocritical on environmental issues.

Meghan has faced backlash over recent months for not following what she has preached.

Earlier this summer, Prince Harry and Meghan came under fire for traveling by private jet four times in just 11 days.

The Duke of Sussex defended their decision by explaining that flying commercial is his preferred method of air travel, but he makes an exception when he wants to protect his family.

While in Amsterdam promoting a new initiative, Travalyst, Harry said: “I spend 99 percent of my life traveling the world by commercial.

“Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe, and it’s genuinely as simple as that.

“But, as I said in my speech, for me, what it is is about balance.

“If I have to do that – not a decision that I would want to take, but if I have to do that – then I would ensure, as I have done previously and I will continue to make sure that I do is to balance out that impact that I have.”

Last month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to highlight the environment as the main focus on their Instagram page.

They spent a month discussing issues, including the threats of climate change, plastic pollution, and endangered wildlife.

They also chose to only follow 15 pre-selected environmentalist accounts.

Meghan previously appeared on the cover of Tatler two months before her wedding Prince Harry.

Richard Dennen, Editor-in-Chief of Tatler, said he chose Meghan to be on the cover again as he thinks she is “fabulous”.

He said: “It was fascinating delving into the archives for this anniversary issue and seeing how the cast of characters has changed.

“Dynasties rise and fall, new money sashays in, celebrities of the day dazzle. As the Duchess of Sussex knows well, every generation has its struggles – but it’s always cool to be on the right side of history.

“I think the Duchess of Sussex is fabulous. I love that she is independent and not afraid of doing things her own way.

“I like her fashion choices, which are chic, sophisticated and grown-up, and the way she is bringing a breath of California cool to the drab and dusty corridors of the old guard.”

ComRes surveyed 2,016 British adults on September 6-8, 2019.

The 310th Anniversary December Issue of Tatler is available on newsstands and via digital download on Thursday, October 31.
