Meghan Markle and Prince Harry struck a multi-million agreement with Netflix for a series of projects, including a documentary about their departure from the Royal Family and life away from the institution. Despite the Duchess of Sussex lamenting the treatment she received in the media since the start of her relationship with her husband, expert Nick Bullen noted the Sussexes’ had effectively turned their life into the “Kardashians on a regal basis.”
Mr Bullen said: “It’s great for viewers in terms of a reality show, but why do they feel the need to share that with us if they want to keep some privacy in their lives?
“That’s the thing that surprised me the most, just how much this was thrown up. I was also really surprised that it’s being billed as a documentary.
“This is not a documentary. This is a reality show. This is the Kardashians on a regal basis.
“A documentary has some form of editorial balance and questions are asked. Opinions are raised. But there are no questions.”

He added: “There are no opinions. There is only one truth in this series – and that’s Harry and Meghan’s truth.”
In a snippet of the documentary, Meghan Markle complained about the interview she had to give alongside Prince Harry following their engagement in November 2017.
She compared the filming to an “orchestrated reality show”, saying they were instructed on what would happen during the interview and she was advised to show off her engagement ring.
But Mr Bullen noted the interview had become traditional practice for the Royal Family and many couples before the Sussexes had been interviewed by the national media.
Meghan Markle's curtsy labelled 'mocking' by royal expert
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Mr Bullen said: “I think the engagement and the wedding followed all the normal royal protocols.
“I don’t think anyone would ever describe those engagement interviews as a ‘reality show.’ They’re very choreographed news programs on a news outlet.
‘The weddings are in many ways, not quite state events, but certainly national events with all the pageantry attached to a royal wedding.
“So I think Meghan is somewhat confused. To call that a reality show and not realize that she’s making her own reality show right now is somewhat surprising.”

Meghan and Prince Harry’s engagement interview was conducted at their home in Kensington Palace by BBC journalist Mishal Husain.
Ms Husain rejected claims the exchange was rehearsed, saying: “We know recollections may vary on this particular subject but my recollection is definitely very much, asked to do an interview, and do said interview.”
She added: “We went and had a conversation with Harry and Meghan and two members of their team beforehand and we talked about what the interview would cover, what they felt comfortable sharing.
“After that, we went and set up our cameras. They went away for a bit and did their photocall and when they came back we recorded a 20-minute interview.”
BBC’s former Director-General Lord Hall also rebuked the allegations as “simply untrue.”
