Meghan and Harry’s latest Netflix trailer is simultaneously “beyond parody” and entirely predictable, a royal commentator has said. Jonathan Sacerdoti also told Express.co.uk he has little sympathy for the couple’s complaints about press intrusion, aired in the latest clip – pointing out they could duck out of the limelight at any time, should they choose.
The first three episodes of the six-part series will drop on the streaming service on Thursday. During the course of the minute-long trailer, the Duke of Sussex complains about a “dirty game” of “leaking” and “planting of stories”.
Mr Sacerdoti, who has featured on the BBC, Fox News and Sky News, said: “So far the trailers suggest the programme will be entirely as predicted: a semi-scripted style documentary in which no challenging questions are asked of those interviewed.”
He suggested one of the show’s themes would be of the Sussexes suffering “great hardships” and portray them as “victims of racism” within the Royal Family.
He added: “It seems the show will pursue the idea that the couple suffered great hardships and portray them as victims of racism, and worse, within the Royal Family.
“I think that’s what we’ve all expected since they announced the deal with Netflix. The trailers so far haven’t disappointed.
“The funny thing is that if one set out to make a comic, spoof version of the Meghan and Harry reality show, it’d look the same. I think that’s what they describe as ‘beyond parody’.
Turning his attention to Harry’s complaints, Mr Sacerdoti added: “This second trailer focuses a lot on the couple’s fears of press intrusion.
“Which is strange when it seems that they were being trailed by at least one private film crew of their own in some quite private moments possibly both before and after they left the UK.”
He continued: “There is a really simple solution to the problem of course: If they don’t want photographers in their life, they could stop hiring them.
“It could all stop tomorrow. No more telling it from their side, no more intimate interviews or special podcasts.
“Just quiet time at home with Wordle or fixing the neighbour’s sprinklers. But I suspect that isn’t about to happen.”
The trailer opens with Harry saying: “It’s really hard to look back on it now and go ‘What on earth happened?”‘
Videos show the couple receiving rapturous applause while conducting royal duties as well as announcing their engagement and their wedding in 2018, with a voiceover of Piers Morgan observing: “She’s becoming a royal rock star”.

Meghan then says “and then” before snapping her fingers, and Harry adds: “Everything changed”.
A photograph of the Royal Family at the Trooping the Colour in 2019 is shown while Harry continues his narration, saying: “There’s a hierarchy of the family, you know, there’s leaking, but there’s also planting of stories. It’s a dirty game.”
Paparazzi taking pictures of the Sussexes and shown alongside old footage of Harry’s mother, Princess Diana being followed by the media as he adds: “The pain and suffering of women marrying into this institution, this feeding frenzy. I was terrified, I didn’t want history to repeat itself.
“No one knows the full truth. We know the full truth.”
