Meghan and Harry warned Americans will start to ‘look to core royals’
Harry and Meghan negotiating royal titles ‘a complete contradiction’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could lose the US market to “core royals” if they continue to keep themselves at a distance from the Firm, a former royal household servant has claimed. Paul Burrell, once a butler for Princess Diana, believes the couple only survives in the public eye because of their royal links.
He added that the audience in the US could “go cold” on Harry and Meghan if they remove themselves too much from the royal fold.
In an interview with Spin Genie, he said: “Their only reason for surviving in the public eye is the fact they’re royal and they are still on the edges of being royal because of Harry’s connection with his family.
“That is their greatest asset and that’s the one that they can use and tease because America loves our Royal Family and the minute Meghan and Harry aren’t involved with our Royal Family at all, America might start to go a little bit cold on them because then they will look toward the core royals again instead of Harry and Meghan.”
Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royals has soured since they decided to leave the Firm in January 2020.
Harry’s memoir Spare and the Sussexes’ Netflix series released last year only cemented the tension between the couple and other royals.
This week, royal commentator Robert Jobson claimed Kate, Princess of Wales, 41, and Meghan, 41, missed the last moments of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September.
Mr Jobson claimed that King Charles ordered Harry and Prince William not to bring their wives to see the Queen.
He also wrote: “Privately, [Charles] wanted to say Meghan was not welcome but he couldn’t say that to Harry so he personally intervened and asked Kate to stay back so that it was fairer on Meghan.”
Meghan won’t be present at King Charles’ Coronation in May as Prince Harry plans to attend alone.
The Telegraph reports that Harry and his father could be trying to mend their broken relationship. The newspaper claims they have engaged in “peace talks” ahead of the Coronation.
A friend of the Sussexes also told said there have been “positive conversations” between the father and son.
The report states that Harry did not speak to his elder brother, William, Prince of Wales, as part of this reconciliation.
