Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have come under closer scrutiny after receiving a prestigious human rights award for calling out “structural racism” within the Royal Family. The Sussexes will be handed the award for their “courage” to stand up to racism within the Firm. However, voices have emerged saying claims of racism inside the Royal Family have never been evidenced or corroborated.

Speaking on Sky News Australia, Author Douglas Murray said: “To have his name given over to the Sussexes and for what? For standing up to racism in the Royal Family?

“They have provided no evidence of racism in the Royal Family. There is no evidence of racism in the Royal Family. The Royal Family is not racist.

“They’re being given an award in the name of Robert Kennedy for doing something that they haven’t done, for standing up to something that doesn’t exist.”

Douglas Murray added he wish more awards were handed to Iranian women and Ukrainian soldiers who are fighting for democracy around the world.

He said: “I just wish that we look around the world. You look at the women in Iran. You look at the women and men in Ukraine. You look at the people actually fighting totalitarianism and totalitarian governments, and that’s a real fight.

“Moaning and whining from California takes no courage at all. It takes a level of imagination and fantasy clearly.

“But it requires no courage and I just wish that they would not accept such an award or hand it over to people in the world who are actually doing the work that the Sussexes pretend to be doing.”

The couple will be given the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights award, which recognises people around the world who have displayed extraordinary bravery and made a major contribution to human rights in their nation.

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, a nonprofit that awards individuals “for their transformative work in the pursuit of a more just and peaceful world,” is led by Kerry Kennedy, one of the former US Attorney-surviving General’s children.

In an interview with the Spanish publication El Confidencial, Kerry Kennedy justified the decision to nominate the Sussexes for the award for their “moral courage”.

She said: “They went to the oldest institution in UK history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn’t have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health.”

Kerry Kennedy said: “They knew that if they did this there would be consequences, that they would be ostracized, they would lose their family, their position within this structure, and that people would blame them for it.

“They have done it anyway because they believed they couldn’t live with themselves if they didn’t question this authority.”

Since the couple stepped back from their royal duties, Meghan and Harry have gradually begun discussing their experience of racism within the royal institution, with Harry saying racism in the British press and teh royal institution played a significant role in their decision to leave their positions.

Meghan also shared her experience during the interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, alleging there had been “concerns and conversations” among royal members about Archie’s potential skin colour while she was pregnant.

Buckingham Palace later issued a brief statement saying the Royal Family was “saddened to learn” of the couple’s difficulties while in the institution.

The statement said: “While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
