Meghan and Harry stepping back celebrated as an ‘American triumph’ says royal expert

Lisa Ryan and Kaitlin Menza were discussing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step back on their podcast Royal Obsession. Ms Menza said the reaction and jokes on Twitter during the day the news broke made her feel like it was an “American triumph”. Ms Ryan praised Meghan and Harry for being “extremely transparent” since they made the announcement on Instagram.

Ms Menza said: “It felt like this was a really fun day to be on Twitter just because it felt like this weird American triumph somehow.

“Obviously I come at it from an American end but it felt like a lot of American jokes.

“We’re getting her back or like she’s rescuing him.

“That kind of thing and it was a fun day to participate in all that and watch it all play out.

“Because it feels weirdly joyful.”

Ms Ryan added: “I think something that is really important to note is they have been extremely transparent.

“Their Q&A is extremely long, it was a lot to go through.”

Prince Harry has become “very weak” according to Royal expert Angela Levin, who took a swipe at the Duchess of Sussex yesterday.

Ms Levin told Victoria Derbyshire: “My concern is for Harry, he is obviously besotted with her but I think he has become very weak.”

Ms Derbyshire asked: “What’s your evidence for saying that?”

Ms Levin replied: “Well I think if you look at him when they’re out together she talks, she likes to talk rather than him.

“On the tour of South Africa, for example, she answered all the questions and then somebody directly asked Prince Harry something and she came in within a sentence.

She continued: “It is going to impossible for them to completely step back into the shadows and I don’t think they want to do that.

“I think that they realise that they have this very powerful global brand.

“You have to put this in the context. This has been a very difficult year for the Queen.

“Only at the end of last year, we had Prince Andrew stepping back from public duty.”
