Meghan and Harry plot £3m holiday home near Beckhams in Cotswolds
The Duke and Duchess are believed to be building a three-bedroom home in the picturesque countryside. The site is close to one of the couple’s favourite retreats, a private members’ club called Soho Farmhouse. Harry and Meghan zipped away on romantic trips to the farmhouse at the start of their relationship, which invites people from creative fields to the £725-a-night venue.
Photos show a site under construction near Soho Farmhouse, in Oxfordshire, and a secluded cottage that could have been knocked down to free-up space for the new home.
Not only did the couple escape to the area for romantic retreats but Meghan also spent the weekend before marrying Harry on May 19, 2018 at the resort.
A source told The Sun: “This house will be their bolthole when they are in the UK.
“It is costing around £3million and will be on the opposite side of the Farmhouse to the small house being built for the Beckhams’.”
The couple – who are a week away from quitting as senior royals – would be based on the other side of the farmhouse to the Beckhams’.
While David and Victoria often make fans jealous with their lavish £31million London mansion, they also own a barn conversion in the Cotswolds, where they holiday with their children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper during holidays or the weekends.
As of next week, Harry and Meghan will keep their Windsor home, Frogmore Estate, but will start paying commercial rent, and repay £2.4 million in taxpayers’ money they used when renovating the property.
They will continue to use the residence so the Sussex’s will always have a base near the royal family, now that they are to split their time between the UK and Canada.
“Frogmore Cottage will continue to be the property of Her Majesty the Queen. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to use Frogmore Cottage – with the permission of Her Majesty The Queen – as their official residence as they continue to support the Monarchy,” they wrote on the Sussex Royal website.
Buckingham Palace later confirmed the plan in the statement: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their wish to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home.”
