The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry have been living in Montecito, California since 2020, after stepping down from the Royal Family. Former US President Barack Obama’s birthday party at the weekend was hosted at Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, but the Sussex royals were reportedly not even invited.

Angela Levin, a royal expert and Harry’s former biographer, said Meghan “desperately wanted” to attend Mr Obama’s birthday party.

She said: “I am told that despite claiming she was unable to attend, Meghan desperately wanted to be the special guest at the Obama’s amazing party.”

Due to coronavirus restrictions, Mr Obama’s guest list had to be shrunk down from 475.

However, the expert added: “But the fact is, Harry and Meghan were never even on the original list.”

Writing in The Sun, Ms Levin said the Obama’s made a “carefully thought-out decision” not to invite the Sussex royals.

She said in the outlet: “Although the Obamas know Harry well and have a lot of time for him, I believe it was a carefully thought-out decision not to invite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“While I don’t think they won’t have anything to do with Harry and Meghan in the future, I feel they want to step back.

“Michelle cares deeply about family. She and Barack believe parents and grandparents are very precious and you don’t insult them, no matter what they do…

“The problem for the Obamas is that the Sussexes’ attack is not just one outburst of anger, which you can forgive, but it is going on and on.”

Camilla Tominey, royal expert and associate editor of The Daily Telegraph, also wrote the Sussexes’ comments on the Royal Family have upset the Obama’s.

She said: “It arguably will not have gone down well with a couple who have always put ‘family first’ to see Harry and Meghan being so openly critical of their royal relatives during their Oprah interview in March.

“During the 90-minute prime time tell-all, the couple accused the monarchy of failing to support them and suggested that Prince Charles and Prince William were “trapped” in The Firm.

“It is perhaps worth noting that the Obamas are also close to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who were central to the 2011 state visit, which took place just weeks after their wedding.”

Ms Tominey also quoted an insider who said: “The Obamas didn’t like Harry attacking his family.

“They value family and certainly aren’t the type of people who would want their children talking to the press.”

Former First Lady Michelle Obama was recently asked what she thought of Harry and Meghan’s comments about the Royal Family.

She said “I just pray that there is forgiveness and there is clarity and love and resolve at some point in time because there’s nothing more important than family.”

It comes after Harry and Meghan said they felt “trapped” in The Firm to Oprah Winfrey in March.

The Duke also spoke on AppleTV+’s ‘The Me You Can’t See’ about he and Meghan were “met with total silence, total neglect” whenever they requested help.
