The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are living in the US after quitting royal duties, are travelling to Britain and Germany next month to visit a number of charities. Royal commentator Natalie Oliveri said the trip looks “remarkably like a mini royal tour”.
However, Ms Oliveri insisted that Harry and Meghan will be “doing it their way and on their own terms”.
Writing for 9Honey, the royal commentator said: “It’s a bold attempt at re-entry to royal life, with their short visit looking remarkably like a mini royal tour.
“Only this time, the wayward royals are doing it their way and on their own terms.”
Ms Oliveri added that the Sussexex have “got exactly what they want” after their “half-in half-out” Megxit plan was rejected back in 2020.
She said: “They once asked the Queen for a ‘half-in, half-out’ approach to royal life when they launched plans to step back from official duties, a request that was swiftly denied by the monarch.
“But now it appears Prince Harry and Meghan have got exactly what they want: the prestige that comes with being a member of the Royal Family and the freedom to do it their own way.”
Ms Oliveri’s comments come as Harry and Meghan are travelling to the UK and Germany in September to support “several charities close to their hearts”.
The couple will head to Manchester for the One Young World Summit, an event which brings together young leaders from more than 190 countries, on September 5.
Meghan, a counsellor for the organisation, will give the keynote address at the opening ceremony.
They will also meet a group of summit delegates doing “outstanding work on gender equality”, One Young World said.
The Sussexes will travel to Germany for the Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023 One Year to Go event on September 6.
They will then return to the UK for the WellChild Awards in London on September 8 where Harry will deliver a speech.
A spokesman for the couple said: “Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to visit with several charities close to their hearts in early September.”
It is the first time the Sussexes have visited Britain since the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.
It comes as the Royal Family are bracing for Harry’s tell-all memoir which is due out later this year.
It also comes amid the Duke’s legal battle with the Home Office over police protection for his family while in the UK.
Harry and Meghan are living in California with their two children Archie and Lilibet after quitting as working royals in March 2020.
