The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be making an appearance at the Global Citizen Live event in New York on Saturday, September 25, but the trip marks the couple’s first visit to the Big Apple together. The whirlwind trip will mark the couple’s first joint public appearance following the birth of their daughter Lilibet in June.

And according to friends of the couple who spoke to Page Six, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “can’t wait to explore the Big Apple” with one another in the “romantic fall” season.

The couple are reportedly attending the 24-hour star-studded global TV event, which is hosted in NYC’s Central Park, without their two children.

Two-year-old Archie Harrison, and his sister three-month-old Lilibet are likely to be staying at home in California, where the couple relocated following their step away from royal duties.

The couple’s appearance at Global Citizen Live will see them “continue their urgent work with world leaders in the pursuit of global vaccine equity to end the COVID-19 pandemic for everyone, everywhere”.

The organisers of the event have also referred to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as “two of the strongest voices on vaccine equity”.

The couple have both previously spoken out about vaccine equity in the past and in May, Harry, made an appearance at Vax Live – a concert in California to promote the sharing of vaccines which raised more than $300 million dollars.

In honour of their son Archie’s second birthday, the couple also called for donations in support of Covid-19 vaccine equity throughout the world.

In addition, Harry, 37 and Meghan, 40, previously penned an open letter to the chief executives of pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca urging them to redouble their support for the UN-sponsored Covax programme.

Saturday’s event is imploring G7 countries and the EU to help distribute one billion COVID-19 vaccine doses immediately to those in need.

The event will see performances from a host of high-profile names including Billie Eilish, Metallica, Shawn Mendes, and the Weeknd.

The all-star event which is set to be broadcast from high-profile cities like New York, Paris, and London is also reportedly to be attended by Adam Lambert, Ed Sheeran, Hugh Jackman and Lizzo among others from the entertainment industry.

The event will mark Meghan’s first public engagement since Lilibet was born on June 4, as she has previously only been seen in photographs – including the couple’s TIME magazine shoot published last week – and a video to mark her 40th birthday in August.

Harry’s last trip to New York was in 2013 when he toured areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy, while Meghan’s last visit was more recent.

The Duchess of Sussex was spotted in the city in early September 2019, when she travelled to support her friend Serena Williams in the US Open.

The 40-year-old royal also had a heavily publicised, $500,000 baby shower there in February 2019, which was held in the penthouse at the Mark Hotel.
