Meghan Markle is the eighth most admired member of the Royal Family despite the Megxit controversy, a new poll shows. Meanwhile, Prince Harry is fifth in the list topped by Prince William and Kate in first and second place.

In the survey of 2,000 Britons by the Sun, King Charles was the third most admired royal with Princess Anne fourth.

Sophie Wessex and Queen Consort Camilla are sixth and seventh respectively, with Prince George ninth and Prince Edward tenth.

However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex proved most popular with younger people.

Harry was the first most admired royal and Meghan the second among 18-24-year-olds.

They are least admired among older people with the Duchess of Sussex tenth among over-65s, while the Duke does not even make the list of the top 10.

Meanwhile, the polling found that 40 percent did not think the couple should return as working royals.

Some 30 percent said yes and another 30 percent did not know.

Harry and Meghan quit royal duties in March 2020 for a new life in the US.

The couple announced their bombshell Megxit decision in January 2020.

They wanted a half-in half-out role but the proposal was rejected amid fears they would be accused of cashing in on their royal status.

The Sussexes are now pursuing new lives of personal and financial freedom in California.

They have set up home in the celebrity enclave of Montecito with their two children Archie and Lilibet.

However there have been tensions with the royals amid the fallout from Megxit.

Harry and Meghan made a series of damaging claims about the monarchy in their Oprah Winfrey interview in March 2021.

However, it is claimed King Charles saw “tremendous flickers of hope” in his relationship with his son and daughter-in-law in recent weeks as the royals united in grief for the late Queen.

A source told the Telegraph: “It remains the case that the King loves both of his children.

“Over the last 16 days or so, there were tremendous flickers of hope. In terms of the future, there is hope of a cause for unity.”
