McDonald's says sorry after mum finds snail in burger
A mortified mum has been refunded the cost of her £18 McDonald’s order after finding a snail in one of the meals.
Britney Johnson, her partner, and their two young daughters ordered
two chicken steak stack meals, a chicken nugget happy meal, and a
small pack of cheese dippers from the Festival Park drive-thru in Stoke on
December 20.
They parked up to eat their food when Britney says she made the grim discovery.
The 22-year-old, from Sneyd Green, said: ‘I was breaking my burger up
into little pieces – and because of that I thought it was a crumb in my burger box. I picked it up and realised it was a bit hard on my fingers. I looked at it and saw a shell.
‘I was like “oh my God, it’s a snail”. I couldn’t believe what I was
seeing. I was like “am I seeing things”?
‘I was shocked. I nearly ate it because I thought it was a crumb. I don’t know if it had come out of the lettuce.
‘We were parked in the car park so I told my partner to go back in and tell them what had happened.’
The family-of-four say the staff were apologetic and offered a full refund as well as a replacement.
But mum-of-two Britney said the grim find has put her off McDonald’s.
She said: ‘I was mortified. I eat McDonald’s quite a bit – and this has put me off. Luckily it was in my meal and I noticed it.
‘But imagine it was my little girl. Imagine if I had given it to my 11-month-old baby.
‘You never believe it until you see it for yourself. You hear all these stories and think it’s not happening.
‘When I went in they were so sorry and said they would get that sent off. They asked if we wanted a refund and replacement. I said I’d have the refund but not the replacement.
‘We got our money back for the entire order. The man was lovely and
couldn’t be anymore sorry. I was happy I got the refund. They couldn’t
have been any more helpful.’
In a statement, McDonald’s said ‘food safety and quality is of the utmost importance’ to the company.
A McDonald’s spokesman added: ‘We place great emphasis on quality control and follow rigorous standards in order to avoid any imperfections.
‘As soon as this was brought to our attention, our restaurant team apologised and the customer was offered a full refund and the option for a replacement meal.’
